Five months before the mountain—the event that occurred upon it takes on an eponymous quality, after the fact, both because it makes the memory rather more poetic than it would be otherwise and also, conveniently, makes said memory easier to ignore—Jaskier killed a man. It wasn’t the first time he’d done so, as he mostly traveled alone when he wasn’t travelling with Geralt and he’d spent the early years of his adolescence on the streets of Oxenfurt besides, and every so often needs must. It was, however, the first time he’d killed a man whilst travelling with Geralt, on account of Geralt’s lovely ability to murder or maim a great number of things in a small window of time.
