Summary
Carol wasn’t mad at Jack for bailing on driving from Los Angeles to Buffalo with her two weeks before they were set to depart. Jack had gone above and beyond, not wanting Carol to cancel the plans she’d made for their trip, somehow procuring a replacement for himself within five days.
Sort of.
If she was normal enough, Carol would happily drag this Therese person across the United States with her. The backup was flying, and shipping her car, but Carol needed this. Time away from everybody, away from people she knew. Plus, aside from living in Chicago and weekend excursions to Las Vegas, she hadn’t visited any of the United Flyover States of America. Why not do that while she had the time? Discover just how little she was missing.

Summary
Unlike the others, this one registers at a 90%, far exceeding anything else that’s shown up in her inbox thus far. This woman’s profile picture is far less suggestive than her other so-called matches, her face half-covered by the professional camera she holds in front of it. Her hair is straight and dark and sits just below her jawline, and by the lack of fine lines at her eyes and mouth as she smiles, Carol guesses she can’t be much older than twenty-five. The public side of her profile is mostly bare except for a short self-written description that’s about as cryptic as Carol’s own.
Flung out of space.

Summary
The reply came easy. Finally a question she knew how to answer. “Actually, Carol is out of town. She’s back tomorrow, I think.”
Therese hadn’t met Carol yet. She just knew that Carol was the Assistant General Manager as well as the Beverage Director and she had been out of town since Therese’s first day last Sunday.
Dannie walked by and overheard Therese’s conversation. He chimed in, addressing both Therese and the women at her table. “Carol? No, she’s back now. She literally walked in the door like ten minutes ago.”

Summary
Seeing Carol in her apartment was certainly different. She’d been there only a couple times - once to visit Therese and give her the camera bag, meeting Richard in the process, and the second time to help Therese with her bags for their trip. Now there Carol was, but to stay. She didn’t do as much poking and prodding as before. Her movements were timid, like last night, and she waited to move from the doorway.
