Lucius looks at him. Lucius is always looking. Usually his gaze sets with focus to Izzy’s own eyes, but sometimes it dips down, skims over him; watches the movement of his hands, the tension of his body, the shape his lips make around his words. He used to think this was part of his ploy, that these glances were just tactics to plant sickening seeds of want in Izzy’s gut that would grow barbed and painful inside him, make him want to claw himself open to get them out. He is always wanting, but at least the old wants are familiar. His body has made peace with the ache they bring. He can’t bear when new sprouts start to choke him, and with Lucius his insides feel like it is always spring.

Playing with both the crossover of genre conventions between Stede's universe and Izzy and Ed's original one, but basically doing a deep dive into trauma response and navigating complex relationships between the crew and Izzy when Izzy is forced into a position where he has to share revealing and intimate things about himself. Lots of focus on the aftermath of abuse and trauma, playing with freeze responses and the way the different crewmembers navigate all this.
