Merlin steps though the veil instead of Lancelot, but he doesn't die. No, he just finds himself transported to a Camelot where Ygraine is queen, Uther is dead, and magic is legal and celebrated. Merlin just wants to find a way back to his own world, Balinor just wants to forget the past, Arthur just wants to marry for love, and Hunith? Hunith knows that Emrys shouldn't exist in this world, so when she catches wind that he is around, she seeks to kill him. Why must trouble always find him?
