Summary
Where Clary doesn't visit Pandemonium that night. Instead, she heads home earlier to talk to Jocelyn. Meanwhile, Alec steals some time alone to sort out his thoughts after the mission at Pandemonium. This sets off a sequence of events where Alec meets Clary and Magnus first.
Or, how the story might have gone if Alec and Magnus got to know (and fall for) each other from the start, and Clary had a different introduction to the Shadow World. Featuring Clave and Downworlder politics, Lightwood family tension, and a Valentine still bent on his crusade to change the world.
Things play out differently. Not necessarily in a bad way.

Alec stared at his own hand, except that it couldn’t be his? There was an almost clinically white light swirling around his fingers and the bars of his cage. It wasn’t like his skin itself was glowing but it was undeniably tied to him all the same. The longer he stared, the tighter his skin felt and the faster the tendrils of light moved.
“Yes, you see now, don’t you? You understand.” Valentine breathed out.
Alec shook his head, “What – what is that?”
“Magic.” Valentine answered with something like wonder, “Your magic.”

Imogen Herondale hated Alec Lightwood.
Everyone from Jia Penhallow all the way through Jace himself knew of her animosity towards the person that she felt held her grandson back from the all that the Herondale name deserved. Despite this, Alec never thought she would actually move against him because to hurt him was to hurt Jace.
He had been wrong.
Now, Alec had no runes. His memories were gone. He had no idea who he was, why there was a ragged wound inside of him that he couldn't see or how he had gotten to this abandoned apartment in San Francisco.
All he knew was that monsters were tracking him and staying alive might take more strength than he had.

Summary
Magnus is turned into a dragon and appears to be stuck that way. (This is not how he pictured his Tuesday going.)
Alec is called to handle a disturbance that involves a dragon and meets a creature that is scared and in need of protection.
Within minutes of meeting each other, they are inseparable, with Alec taking responsibility for the small dragon, and Magnus taking advantage of the protection offered by the shadowhunter.
Neither of them is expecting a convenient arrangement for them both to evolve into something much, much more.
