1926.
Hob Gadling accidentally acquires a favor from one of the Fair Folk. Still distressed over the disastrous meeting in 1889, he commiserates in a state of drunkenness that he wishes he and his stranger simply understood each other better.
Like most faery favors, this goes disastrously awry.Hob wakes up in a fishbowl.
More accurately, he wakes up in his stranger's body.
Which is in a fishbowl.

Little less than a day after losing Jessamy, Dream wakes up on a train.
More than that, he wakes up human, albeit immortal.
Very familiarly immortal.
He wakes up in the body of Hob Gadling.
This is not, in his opinion, an improvement upon his circumstances.
