Catra sighs and pulls out a check, waving it in front of Adora’s nose until she snatches it and surveys it. She watches Adora’s eyes bug out and grins triumphantly. “I happen to know,” she says, “that your organization applied for a grant with my company. I also happen to know that our sales have gone up since people started talking about my relationship with you.”
“Our fake relationship,” corrects Adora.
“But they don’t know that,” says Catra calmly. “That brings me to the third thing I happen to know. I happen to know that your organization is going bankrupt, and I have the resources to help it succeed. Think of this as an…” she trails her pointer finger along the ridge of Adora’s desk, pausing for dramatic effect, “...unconventional business deal.”

Ransom’s not sure exactly how a heterosexual, cisgender white American man with an encyclopedic knowledge of Golden Girls who sings show tunes in the communal shower after practice became his friend, but by November it’s become abundantly clear that Holster is the best friend he’s ever had. Holster is his best friend and his defense partner, so when they’re warming up before a game and Holster sends him a sloppy pass that misses Ransom by a good meter and a half Ransom immediately knows something is wrong.

Holster's in love with Ransom. By now that thought barely makes him blink. It doesn't shake him down to his soul like it did the first time he realised, in sophomore year, sat across from his best friend in Annie's at five am, when the morning light was illuminating Ransom's face in some way that made Holster's heart just—stop.
(Or, five times Holster tried to use the love languages to show Ransom how he felt and the time he finally just used plain English.)
