    With all the conflict and tension between Amestris and Aerugo, it was inevitable that a war would break loose. Mustang, though, had always thought that he would be able to keep his young prodigy away from such a nightmarish ordeal.

    I read this before on ff.net (Loyal Dogs, author under the same pseud).
    It's is one of the best FMA:B fanfics.

    Death isn't good for the soul and dead things can't die twice.

    Harry dies too many times to be fine. After the war he goes travelling; he and Tom Riddle always were too much alike for their own good.

    'Dead things can't die twice.' - I love the ending punchline.

    Bookmarker's Notes

    Goddamn, this fanfic! So gooood!
    It tickled all my hidden cravings - things, the potentials I love in this ship. I loved the strife between them: Tom & Harry (and in them), the tug back and forward - the wild, untethered dynamic.
    I very enjoyed how characters were portrayed. Not just Harry & Tom, the rest too. Even secondary chars. Loved the flawed characters. But I have to specially mention Tom - he was superb. Felt as true psychopath (and not just some weak imitation) - he was done believably. Until the very end. He often felt so hollow (and yet absolutely not). He was beautifully cold-blooded (snek). Lol. I would rec this fic just for refreshing murderous His Lordiness. (and Harry)
    I also liked the changes to the canon - I love AUs. And Harry's necromancy is just... sigh. 💛
    This fic was riveting, I just could not stop reading until the end. It's also entertaining (hah! those humorous parts 😀).

    Reading this fic was true delight.
    Probably the only critique I can think of - it felt as if the whole story was floating in time-vacuum. Idk 'when' it all was happening. Etc.
    But otherwise?
    This fic is just Damn Good Job.
    💛

He knows the odds (and the stubborn people - Arthur in particular) are stacked against him and the obstacles he must overcome seem insurmountable. Can destiny be nudged enough to save Arthur's life, and is the price too high?

    Summary

    Someone has butchered five of Camelot's best not two leagues from the castle gates, and left a blunt note: 'Bring us Emrys.' Already struggling with the sudden distance between Arthur and himself, even as Arthur tentatively explores the idea that all magic is not evil, Merlin must find the killers before anyone else is hurt. With Elyan at his side, Merlin rides to meet the Catha priest Alator, to invite Gaius' kidnapper to Camelot as an ally. Upon their return, all manner of magic users converge on the city, and Merlin quickly finds himself the unspoken leader of a rag-tag magical encampment, when all he wants is for things to go back to the way they used to be: when Gwen's smiles were genuine, Aithusa adored him, and Arthur's love wasn't so utterly, absolutely out of reach.

    Bookmarker's Notes

    I highly enjoyed the portrayal of characters (not only the main ones) - Alator (lol), Elyan (usually one of the more overlooked knights, nice nice!);
    I liked how... more magical the land was depicted (there is magic beyond just that of humans - how author wrote Merlin's feel of the land, its (wild) inhabitants...);
    I enjoyed the whole convoluted love situation - that one was done very nicely, in mature way I would say? (I really liked the ending parts);
    and I even appreciate that it is not explicit fic (it would probably not suit the whole mood of the fic anyway), instead I enjoyed the profound...feels. :D

    Tags may look scary, but don't be discouraged. :o)
    It is wonderfully written fic.
