    Summary

So, you know how musicals are set in a world where people just burst into song every five minutes, and everyone around them automatically knows to join in with the tune and choreography? This fic is set in that world.

John finds it extremely frustrating that Sherlock won't sing their theme song with him.

    Not Season 3-compliant.

Thanks to Sapph, Earlgreytea68 and Passeriform for betaing/lyric help (any appalling bad lyrics remain my fault), and Ariane DeVere for her very useful episode transcripts.

So what would have happened if John hadn't walked through the park and met Stamford?

What if, instead, he walked around the park and just went home?

    “You love your mother, Sherlock?”

John watched the muscles in Sherlock’s jaw jump. He nodded in one sharp jerk.

“Then we’re going to her party and making her happy.” John let out a resigned sigh. “As a ruddy couple, you bastard.”

    Bookmarker's Notes

Masterfully written, fake boyfriend trope with a twist, amazing Mummy characterization, Scottish scenery to die for. Very touching view of a family and a love.

So much to appreciate about this work - the great characterizations, the Scottish scenery and history, but I want to highlight the unique way you portrayed John and Sherlock's day to day relationship. The needling, but dependence, the wit was truly charming, and we really got to watch John fall in love with Sherlock - and vividly you portrayed all the eccentric reasons why he loved him. I loved the puffin scene and the cave scene and I don't how you could have written more unique and beautiful settings. I can't help but think of what Scotland will mean to them in the future, and how much Mummy would love that.

I think a lot of romantic stories, both original and fanfic, lack that essential thread of why the characters love and appreciate each other, and so we miss out on falling in love alongside them. I really think about that a lot in my work--I want the readers to understand why the characters are together. So it means a lot to me to hear that this is what you experienced reading it. Thanks so much!

    Bookmarker's Notes

The premise of an invert Watson and Holmes keeping his secret until he needs more information was wonderful. It was an unusual tack to take and I enjoyed it so much. Also, Holmes was very much in character - very believable, both of them.
