    Bookmarker's Notes

This is a great KevAaron story. Every character involved is different enough to make things interesting in this new setting, yet their essential selves are polished bright to shine true. Come watch Aaron gain his footing in a job which is different + unfamiliar than his usual fare. See him decide he knows who Kevin Day is, only to have each of his assumptions overturned in a most delightful way. Aaron + Andrew's relationship here is true + real. Riko is horrible. Like: really, really horrible. Jeremy is sunshine, albeit in a different way than he is around exy. The beautiful Jean Moreau is fun. Reader, you have a delight ahead of you.

    Bookmarker's Notes

It's a mark of a strong writer who can create a character, in this case Bond, who at the beginning of the story is not very likeable in some respects + then show us how they change over time. I admitted to the author I almost backed out of this at the end of Ch 1 + then again at the end of Ch 2, but Q intrigued me so I kept reading. I'm so glad I did. YES at the beginning of this story it's alpha-male Bond in all his swaggery flirtatiousness (snoresville), yet over time + because of what happens with Q, he slows down, sees himself from Q's perspective + then gets brave enough to let the Quartermaster into his heart. It's quite lovely. Plus Q is a BAMF towards the end in a most delightful way. Enjoy reader!

It took three swats of his racquet (heavy, short in length, shallow net depth, one parallel red mark on the middle of the body) to break Kevin's hand and spirit.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Rubs hands together... author vertigo has a heart for Kevin + Aaron and she writes them so well. This set up is fantastic: Kevin leaves the Nest and needs a next step. Jean Moreau helps him get an assistant coaching job for a small Cleveland exy team, one of the first major league teams. An underlying theme of the story is KAYLEIGH DAY!!! Her impact on her son both personally + as an exy player, and her friendship w/Cleveland's Head Coach Sanders, Kevin's new boss.

Watching Kevin find his footing in this new role with a team nowhere near as talented as the Ravens is a good enough story itself. It's a treat to see him with two non-exy hobbies: photography and cooking. Watching Kevin + Aaron, Cleveland Black Jacket's backliner, when they first meet dance around each other like wary fighters adds a whole other element. That's all I'm going to say. Dive into the story yourself so you get to see what else happens. Start reading this for Kevin Day and Aaron Minyard, then find yourself enjoying Coach Sanders and the rest of the fabulous OCs which fill out the story.

    Summary

"Aaron, are you ready to go? The emergency room queue isn’t getting any shorter.”

Aaron feels a thrill of nervousness pull unpleasantly in his belly. He doesn’t want to spend the night in a brightly-lit, overcrowded emergency room and have strangers prodding at him. He glances back at Andrew, who looks as disinterested as ever. He’s slouched over, hands in his lap and unmoving, face expressionless. He’s facing forward, but his eyes are on Aaron.

And Aaron’s halfway out the door when he swivels. Blurts, “You’ll come with me?"
    --
Aaron and Andrew spend an evening hanging out in the emergency department.

I love it when writers join the AFTG fandom. What a treat to have Batfam writer incogneat-oh among us. This debut story is FANTASTIC! Wonderful insights into Aaron + Andrew's relationship dynamics with enough Minyard snark to make it sparkle w/sharp shards. Enjoy dear reader, enjoy!

    Summary

Aaron's trial ended with a not-guilty verdict. That should be the end of it. Andrew testified and now he can wash his hands of that part of his life.

But though it's ancient history to him, it's front page news to the rest of the world. The fallout is never that easy.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Dear Reader, have you ever wondered how Andrew navigated those first days, weeks, months after Aaron's trial? Thankfully one of puddlejumper99's followers has too + submitted a prompt. Aren't we fortunate puddle took the request + generously wrote this story in response.

There's numbness + pain here for sure. That's to be expected. But there's also a measure of grace present, maybe because we get to see an ever-steady Neil as Andrew's companion through it all. Neil, watching watching watching Andrew, feeding him, tending to him in ways which hold space for Andrew to do what he needs to in order to begin moving forward, even if the steps are tiny.

Oh and when Andrew takes those steps? It's breathtaking.
Moving out of the spider-webbed-foggy-thing which is trauma or trauma revisited, well, it's so damned hard. Which makes brave Andrew's efforts beautiful.

    Thanks again anon.
    And thank you puddle.
