    ...

When Clarke runs away at the end of season 2, instead of going north, she goes south, and stays gone for seven months. When she returns, she's not alone.

    ...

    “He’s not mine,” she whispered.

    “What?” Bellamy’s stomach turned.

Clarke stared into his eyes, keeping her voice quiet and desperate. “Please, Bellamy. You don’t understand. The grounders believe in purifying their bloodlines. I don’t know what they’d do if they knew I saved him… they’d say I interfered. They'd take him. I don’t know if... some of them might even want him dead.”

    “Clarke, I don’t-”

She grabbed his hand and held it tight, checking over her shoulder. “Listen, okay. I’m his mother now, and I always will be, but he wasn’t always mine, Bellamy. I found him.”

    Summary

Clarke feels like she’s underwater, breathing in glass. The air feels syrupy, but raw against her throat, and she has to squint if she looks at the sky for too long. The yellow-blue plants of this planet burn her skin if she touches them for too long. It’s hard to get up after she’s been sitting down for more than a few minutes, and it feels like something is pressing down on her shoulders every time she takes a breath.

It didn’t take long for Clarke to realise that something was wrong. No one else did, but she doesn’t expect them to because what's wrong isn't the planet, it's her.

    Summary

This story begins where Season 6 ended, minus the anomaly.

"At first, Clarke was too ashamed to admit to herself that out of all the challenges she'd faced 'peace' was the only that might finally break her."

The liberation of Sanctum behind them, for the first time they see a real chance of ongoing peace for their people. Can they see peace for themselves? With no reason to fear the future, there is now nothing to distract them from their pasts. No one struggles with this more than Clarke, who in the space of a day loses her mother to death, Bellamy to her own foolishness, and her purpose to peace. Now that the years of fighting to stay alive are over, what's left?

    Summary

They have a rhythm, a routine. They wake up, they wipe themselves down to keep clean, they eat. He counts their calories. They start the car and go. They picked up an atlas somewhere along the way. One of those huge old books filled with paper maps of the whole continent that show a bunch of roads, not just the major highways. She sets it in her lap and plays navigator. They follow rusted road signs and change directions at a whim. After a few hours they stop and pull out the solar panel to charge the sat radio and their phone. The alarm goes off. He turns the radio on and clicks the microphone twice. Pip pip. No one answers. She used to ask him what the point was but she doesn’t anymore. He’s allowed his eccentricities. They get back in the car and keep moving. Eventually they stop and find a safe spot to sleep. Sometimes they can't find somewhere safe. Sometimes they have to kill some wights first. The next morning they wake up and do it all over again. Where they’re going doesn’t matter but they never stay in one place for long. Tourists on a road trip at the end of the world.
