Luckily, the women-only Monster Extermination Agency, known colloquially as the "Flower Serpents" for their perfumed flower pouches and their snake-inspired hunting technique, is protecting the public as best as it can. Their mission is simple: exterminate the Monsters, minimize damage, and ensure nobody else gets turned into a cannibalistic beast.
Unknown to the Agency, someone else is helping them kill Monsters as well. This mysterious traveler, a former Serpent who calls herself "The Badger", harbors a secret: she is the very thing she had sworn to eliminate.

“There’s a girl in there,” Yeji points at the girl at the bottom of the pond, muck seeping into her bright white sundress.
“Yes,” Jihyo says sadly. “Yes there is.”
“Is she dead?” Yeji asks. She leans forward, enough that the tips of her hair skim the surface of the pond.
“No,” Jihyo says. “Not dead, just… sleeping.”
“Was she cursed or something? Like Snow White?”
“Kinda,” Jihyo says. The moon is bright tonight. “Her name is Tzuyu. She’s cursed to stay there because she broke a promise.”
“To who?”
Jihyo’s eyes turn to Tzuyu, and then to Yeji. Yeji blinks up at her.
“To me.”(Yeji grows up, falls in love, and wards off her possible early-death. It makes the witch-in-training part seem easy.)
