The day after Ben’s funeral, Klaus moved out of the academy, got clean, and started training- learned how to help his powers grow and grow and grow. But the apocalypse is still on, God is a brat, time makes everyone its bitch, and the only thing more dangerous than little Number Seven is heartbroken Number Four, a natural disaster wrapped in flowy skirts and black eyeliner (and they’re all about to learn just how dangerous someone can be when they don’t have anything left to lose).

Summary
He loves Klaus with every inch of his being, and the craziest part is that Klaus loves him, too, maybe even more than himself (there’s ice around Klaus’s heart, solid and impenetrable, but Dave has somehow managed to get past it, to settle into the warmth and brightness and he hopes, someday, he’ll figure out how to melt it).
It’s both terrifying and exhilarating, being the center of Klaus’s world (even though Dave is pretty sure Klaus is the center of the whole goddamn universe).
The span of Dave’s entire life has narrowed down to maybe and someday, and it’s not as scary as it should be.
(Dave doesn’t know it yet, but he is melting the ice around Klaus’s heart. There’s a fissure now, and flowers are starting to grow in it, young and tentative and struggling to bloom, but vibrant and vivacious and beautiful.)

Five pulls away just enough to see Klaus’s face, meeting his eyes with a look so intense that Klaus nearly flinches under the weight of it.
“For once in your life, kiddo, don’t be afraid.”
Klaus shivers and says quietly, “I don’t know if I can.”
Ben laughs, soft and gentle and wondrous, and says, “Klaus, you already did.”

“I don’t know man,” Diego says, frustrated. “I’m not a doctor, or a space-jumping expert. All I know is that he pushed himself too far, but he said he was fine- or would be fine with some time and rest.”
Five frowns. Did he say that? He doesn’t recall that conversation. He’s not sure why he would say something like that to Diego, either. It doesn’t feel like he’s getting better in the slightest. If anything, he’s probably getting worse—“Then fucking say that!” Diego snaps loudly, startling Five. “For God’s sake, Five, I’m trying to help you over here! You think I’m having the time of my life sitting here and watching you like this?”
