When Colin returns from his visit to Marina during the Aubrey Hall visit, he’s desperate to avoid the ball. As he sneaks back to his room with a decanter of brandy, he runs into Penelope. He impulsively invites her to his room, and despite trying to show restraint, they end up in bed together.
After a few months, Penelope realizes that she’s pregnant and as she weighs what to do next, she starts wondering if moving to the Americas may be her best option.
AKA the time that Colin behaves that way with a young lady of Penelope’s background and doesn’t immediately render a marriage proposal.
