Could the devastation of the Camarilla attack, in the long run, make the place of witches in the world stronger rather than weaker? In their weakness and vulnerability could the world give them empathy and compassion? Could Tally Craven really be right? Petra seems to think so, now if only she could convince the reborn Sarah Alder.
Sarah Alder is a stubborn untrusting centenarian set in her ways and determined to carry the burden of all witchkind on her own, but Tally Craven is a determined Gen-Zer ready to earn Sarah Alder's trust (*cough*-LOVE-*cough*), but she'll settle for changing the world for the betterment of Witchkind. But only if she has to.

What if Tally Craven’s Alder dreams weren’t only of the nightmare variety? What if her research led her down a decidedly different path? What if there were another, hidden secret which was the real reason Sarah wouldn’t, couldn’t make free with her heart? Could Tally manage the inconceivable, and make Sarah Alder change her mind?
Alder didn’t move, nor did she say anything. She only stood there, panting hard, glaring into the wide eyes of her Cadet. There were things they needed to discuss, it seemed. Tally unraveled her scourge and held it with a slight uncertainty in her hands. Alder narrowed her eyes just as Tally brought her hands up in a fighting stance.

Their link never severed and they're feeling more from one another than they care to. Tally wants to find a solution while Sarah wants to blatantly ignore it—and her.
Where before Tally starts basic training at Fort Salem she is officially handfasted to General Alder and the insistence of the Hague and the Imperetrix.
