“Bee,” it says, flustered, a-buzz. “We are Bee.”

The woman watches. “Beatrice?” she suggests. “That’s a common name. Bee for Beatrice?”

Saved. The Hive agrees that this new name is suitable. “Yes,” it says. “Bee for Beatrice.”

“I thought you might be,” the woman says enigmatically. “You look it.” She tilts her head slowly, the leather of her mask a dull shine in the sunlight. Her voice is still so soft, and again the Hive leans in to hear her. “I thought you were dead. So many are.”

A "the world ended; life goes on" story, told from the perspective of a pragmatic but optimistic beehive.

    Summary

In one universe, Izuku turns right to head home to a wet-eyed mother who fusses over his bruises and attempts to save his now waterlogged notebook. He ends up passing under a bridge where he is attacked by a villain and saved by a hero in the same breath, and has his heart break under that hero’s words. He’ll prove himself to be brave if not clever by rushing in to save his schoolyard bully, and have that same hero mend his broken heart with words and a declaration under a setting sun.

    This is not that universe.

    Bookmarker's Notes

TooTiredToFunction: don’t change the subject SmallMight. you know as well as I do that there’s very little actual good analysis for heroes out there because everyone treats it like a reality tv show

AllMightAllTheTime: Technically it is reality tv

AllMightAllTheTime: Also these are important questions that need asking, and usually you’re the one to text me at four am with them. Aren’t you still haunted by wondering if Gun Head has bullets for eyes.

TooTiredToFunction: Those are important questions and I still demand answers at all times of day. the truth never sleeps. hence why you should agree with me that we could make a better hero analysis show with duck tape and my cousin’s video camera

The Izuku + Shinsou alliance is real. Go forth and show them all, you angry nerds.

(Less facetiously: social commentary, the power of friendship, and a Wish Fulfillment For Misfits story ...that doesn't require a magical mentor-figure granting superpowers to get anywhere.)

    Bookmarker's Notes

One of the guiding principles Nikki has held onto since being forced into Miraland was that there was no violence in this country. The biggest worry she had was a wardrobe malfunction.

The thing about being summoned into a fairytale world to stop some unspecified Terrible Thing is that, well... sooner or later, terrible things will /happen/, with no way to avoid or stop them. That's just life.

(Spoilers for ch15; and, as it turns out, for Nikki's backstory.)

"Izuku took a deep breath while everyone started running. He took a second to clear his mind, and focused on his favorite quirks, the one he kept close.
Speed. Cooldown. Strength. Jump. Endurance. Resistance. Inertia. And his favorite, Air pressure.
    He dashed towards the entrance."

Izuku wants to be a hero.

    Bookmarker's Notes

His feet were barely touching the ground, a handful of Speed quirks spreading through him.

At this moment, the world was clear. It didn't matter that he had a 'bad' quirk. That caution dictated him to stay low, to not draw attention. He just knew someone was in danger and that he had the means to help.

Most teenagers think they're somehow immortal. For all his tendency to worry and ability to plan, Izuku is not an exception to that particular rule.

(Or: canon, plus some new quirk problems & minus a few key pieces of plot armor.)

    Bookmarker's Notes

If Computron could feel emotions, he might have felt stressed by this series of messages. As it is, he takes 4.6 seconds longer staring at the screen than he usually does. He types, styluses-in-claws, at the same ponderous speed he normally does.

"Meetings for Robots" by songofsunset is a post-canon (possibly canon-divergent) sequel to "Fandom for Robots" by Vina Jie-Min Prasad. They're both exactly what the titles would suggest, and so much subtler and deeper than I had expected. Recced!
