The abyss was black, snow was white, and battle was red. Tartaglia, “Childe,” quite liked them that way, and he quite liked when they all mixed together. In fact, nothing was better. He took every step in life desperate to swallow the whole world in those colors.
Zhongli, on the other hand, preferred the calm, endless blue of the sea. It was unfortunate that taming the ocean was a futile endeavor. Even so, he always found that he did his best soul-searching while near the water.

Post-1.1, Zhongli and Childe navigate their relationship set back into motion after a single battle.

Summary
It was the way Zhongli’s warm amber eyes suddenly were not as warm anymore. The way he looked at him with a piercing look, void of remorse, as he handed his gnosis over willingly to go on a whole tangent about how his “duties were done”. It was the way he turned and treated the precious traveler with the same amount of kindness and gentleness the Childe had received the previous night, with such ease; it was a look he thought was reserved only for him. It was the way he was able to turn back around, stare at Childe with an unreadable gaze, and walk away without so much of a goodbye.
Or, Zhongli and Childe finally have the conversation that was long overdue.

Three weeks after summoning Osial, and three weeks without contact from his old friend, Childe wakes up in Zhongli's body. It goes exactly as one might expect. (Which is to say: disastrously.)“So what you’re saying is—the worse of an actor I am, the more likely it is that we’ll never change back. So I shouldn’t do things like dive for fish in the Liyue ponds when all the Millelith are watching.”

“I’ll periodically ask for your color, or the moment you say ‘red’ we’ll stop whatever we’re doing. I noticed you removed all fluid play, so I’ll never take it to the point you’ll bleed. Your pleasure will be just as important as mine.”
Childe swallows the whiskey quickly, “I’m uh—fine with bruises, biting, choking and stuff.”
Zhongli hides a smile, venturing, “You didn’t remove rape play entirely.”
His ears burn. “I like it rough,” he admits, eyes coyly glancing towards Zhongli who takes a perceptible breath once their eyes meet. “Really rough.”
Zhongli is looking for a particular kind of arrangement, Childe is bored. What could go wrong?

At that, Zhongli straightens his back and proudly sticks the little piece of paper on the other's cup, clicking his pen with a satisfied little huff of breath. "Though their lengthy dive time might suggest that whales are able to breathe underwater, this is not true. Whales are mammals, and breathe air just like humans. Yet these cetaceans do possess incredible abilities to hold their breath for long periods. Sperm whales can complete some of the longest dives by mammals, sometimes lasting as much as 90 minutes,“ the sticky note read, and with that, he goes to place the order on the table, leaving just as swiftly with a small, courteous nod.
Alternatively; Zhongli overhears Childe argue about sperm whales. They proceed to communicate through sticky notes and play the waiting game.

This mission was strange from the start. The most glaringly obvious factor was that the Fatui introduced him to his target, pretending that the man in front of them wasn't clearly Rex Lapis. Still, if Childe wanted to confirm his suspicions he needed the man to take off his shirt.
At least, that was his original goal. He ends up learning a lot more than he bargained for in the process.
