But…something had stopped Lambert from just leaving the Cat there to bleed out & die in a spreading pool of blood & smashed potions vials.
Of course, he might still die anyway — Lambert could hear the Cat's wheezing from his punctured lung with every labored breath tickling across his ear. Wouldn't be from lack of trying on Lambert's part though, he owed the other witcher that much at least.
Just got to get the Cat over the next rise; to the Temple of Melitele waiting there at the base of the Mahakam Mountains. Let the priestesses fix him up to the point that Lambert's last Swallow could do the rest of the job.
Then Lambert could take himself on his merry fucking way, never give the bastard a second thought.
"Name's Aiden," the Cat groaned as they crested the hill, the poplar-flanked road leading from the temple's main gate looking particularly picturesque as it came into view.
"Don't care," Lambert grunted back at his burden as he staggered onward, eager to never have to see this Cat ever again.
