Summary
Dan had been so bone-deep sure that he was going to have to leave Casey that he had, in effect, mentally reconciled himself to the idea. There was something to it, he was pretty sure, and he said so to Abby: something to the idea of reconciliation, something to smoothing over all the hollow, pitted scars in his soul with warm beach sand. He’d bake in the sun until all the regrets had baked out, like alcohol from a rum cake.
“Don’t you mean rum balls?”
“No, I’m pretty sure I mean cake.”

“So here’s the thing,” said Casey.
Abby squinted at him. “You’re Casey McCall.”
“That’s correct.”
“You’re Danny’s partner.”
He nodded, feeling stiff and awkward. “I was, yes.”
Abby rocked back in her chair, contemplating him. “You should probably find a different therapist.”

Summary
Dan Rydell drove to Los Angeles in the summer of 1988.
It might have been a questionable idea. It might even, if one were to listen to his father, be a stupid idea. If one were to listen to Jacob Rydell, affectionately known to his intimates as Jay, one might think that blowing that kind of gas money is a waste, when the plane ticket is cheaper and faster, and it’s not like you need to bring much. What do you think you’re doing, having a adventure? This is a job, Danny.
Dan did not think about that. The open road, with the sky arching beautifully above him, was a truly magnificent thing. He had his favorite tapes and a working cassette player. He mashed play without looking, and when he hit the end he’d swap it out, Simon le Bon’s voice thready against the roar of the pavement. Twelve hours a day of driving would get him there in under a week. There were parks and motels to sleep in when and if it became necessary. He chain-smoked when he started getting tired, juggling the cigarette lighter with the wheel, and kept going.

Summary
“Dan,” said Sally, leaning in across the table, “you’re a very handsome man.”
Dan grinned at her, just one side of his mouth; it didn’t make it to his eyes. “So I’ve been told.”
Anthony’s was full of noise. It was late—too late—and Dana and Casey were gone. Almost everyone was gone.
Sally toyed with the skewered lemon peel in her drink. “I think you should consider a proposition.”
“Oh, really? What kind? I hope it’s indecent. Wait, no, that’s a proposal.”
She leaned forward again, and he found himself leaning back, until her lips brushed his ear. “Come back to my place.”

Summary
Dan liked Las Vegas. He liked the swirling crowds, he liked the women dressed to the nines, the constant glitter of excitement. He loved the pure, unmatched satisfaction of sitting at a game of poker among the highly skilled and immensely talented regardless of whether he won or lost, although if pressed he would have had to admit that he preferred winning.
So when he got off the plane at McCarran, he was already feeling as airy and expansive as the bubbles frothing up in a flute of champagne. He had a suit carefully rolled in his luggage and a song in his heart. What more could a city boy need?

Summary
A Manhattan wasn’t Dan’s favorite drink, but it was a classic. It was familiar and comforting in its familiarity with its thick, sickly sweetness.
The maraschino cherry sat in the glass once he’d made it most of the way through, a neon blob, stem standing boldly upright. He toyed with it as he watched Casey arguing with Dana at a table, faces red and hands flying in heated gestures.

Summary
“Daniel,” said Iris, “you’ve got to come.”
“I do? Why?” He grinned, tucking the phone under his ear as he slid open the door to the deck. “Are you sure?”
“Daniel,” she said plaintively.
“Fine, fine, of course. I will come and see your art, and I will be suitably impressed and murmur very profound things about it.”

Summary
“I’m not saying the leaves aren’t beautiful,” said Dan, “I’m saying they’re beautiful in October, not mid-January.”
It was definitely Casey’s fault. Dan had decided to remind him of that fact, aggressively, every four or five miles, or in other words every hour or so. The road was not pretty. The snow, heaped into piles on either side of the road, was getting freshly bedecked by new snow with a rapidity he found more than a little alarming.
“Look,” Casey said defensively, huddled over the steering wheel and squinting out into the mess, “no one said you had to come.”

Summary
“I don’t know,” said Kim to Dave, on their side of the booth, “it’s just inevitable, isn’t it?”
“What is?” asked Casey. He had a nice, quiet buzz on; Anthony’s was seasonally appropriate, if a touch juvenile, with black tinsel draped everywhere and a skeleton in a corner behind the bar. Jack must be bumping into it constantly.
“That if you know somebody long enough, sooner or later you’re going to get a crush on them.”

Summary
If you were to ask Casey what happened, he would tell you this story:
Shortly after The Divorce (it is important, in Casey’s stories, that you can hear the capitalization—he assigns emphasis to things, sometimes nouns, vaguely Germanic in his insistence on this appropriate apportioning of weight), he was staying at Danny’s. He was sleeping on Danny’s couch because that was the thing one did when one was undergoing a divorce.

Summary
Loki didn’t look a day older than he had in 2012, but he did look different. The brightness of his skin, the darkness of his hair and the color of his shirt brought out his eyes, which were locked onto Clint’s beneath the furrow of his brow.
Loki’s eyes shone emerald green, and Clint’s hold on himself broke loose.
Not a hint of fucking blue. This is bad. Or good. I don’t know what this is.

Summary
Canon diverged before Jackson found Atlantis. The IOC stepped in and decided to make things more efficient. A gene testing program brought Major John Sheppard into the program earlier, but budget constraints and international treaties have kept Dr. Jackson out of the antarctic. So now John has to find his own team--and his own geek--or he's in danger of being stuck in the mountain forever as a light switch. However, as the universe changes, fate forces some things to return to proper form, and other things... they get wildly out of control. John isn't sure how he came to be Earth's enemy, but he's going to have to deal with the cards he's dealt.
