In 2018, Steve, Sam, and Bucky embark on a mission to explore a Hydra-owned warehouse when a kid with mutant powers sends Steve 18 years into the future. After figuring out where (and when) he is, Steve tracks Bucky down in 2036 to find he's become a successful business owner and an impassioned advocate for mutant rights. Steve's just as in love with Bucky as he was when he left, but for Bucky it's been a long 18 years. It's hard to accept when Bucky keeps him at arm's length... but Steve's never met a challenge that he didn't take.
As he gets used to life in 2036 and the flaws in Bucky's idyllic life expose themselves, Steve also has to manage a suspiciously ubiquitous security force, a Brotherhood of Mutants, and old competing loyalties among his aged friends. There's a Bucky in 2018 waiting for him to come home, but if he does that, it means leaving this Bucky behind for a third, unforgivable time. How can he choose?
What's Bucky not saying?
How can he face losing everything -- again?

The thing about bar hookups was that Clint was terrible at them. He was, actually terrible at people-ing in general, but dating in specific.
He tended to fall hard and fast, and more often than not kind of accidentally. Tripping into love, Natasha had once describe it with a fond smirk and an eye roll. And she wasn’t wrong.

“You’ve got war in your heart boy,” Howard sneers, “don’t ever try and pretend to be anything but what you are.”
Tony feels the familiar burn of a flower mark being etched into his skin but he doesn’t look, doesn’t try and check to see what it is. Instead he keeps his eyes on Howard and his hands cupped around his bleeding mouth and nose.

He comes in like the others, with tired feet and a dusty leather jacket, cracked from old age, weather-worn hair he pulls back off his face, and a name he needs to outrun.
He looks like a man who wants to be forgotten, except for bright blue eyes that he can’t quite hide and a little cleft in his chin that becomes more pronounced when he smiles.
He hasn’t smiled for a long time, though.
The man sits at the bar and waits.
He doesn’t know who he’s waiting for, but he does know what.
Someone to smuggle him to the Citadel, the heart of HYDRA, so he can help cut off its head and blow up the rest.

They've successfully completed what might be the most dangerous mission in history: the recovery of the Winter Soldier.
Now comes the recovery of Bucky Barnes, which is turning out to be even more difficult.
A story about Bucky coming back to the surface with the help of Steve, Sam, pancakes, video games, the city of New York, assorted Avengers, and beds that--really, let's be honest here--are too soft to sleep on.
