Summary
Placing the back of his palm to Merlin’s brow confirmed his suspicions and he almost hissed in sympathy at the heat sitting there. He was burning up. Without thinking, Arthur continued where Gaius had left off, grabbing the cloth and squeezing out the excess water before resting it on Merlin’s forehead. Maybe it wouldn’t do much but it made him feel better, knowing he was helping just a little.

Summary
He wondered briefly if this was what death felt like. A strange, quiet serenity in amongst this inescapable pain. He slowly dragged his hand up to press lightly against his chest. It did little to suppress the clawing ache sitting beneath his ribs but it did provide a small comfort as he did his best to take a few deep breaths. He could feel his heart pounding beneath his palm and right now, amongst the confusion clouding his mind, that was enough to prove to him that he was in fact still alive.
Though, if he were dead, he doubted it would hurt this much.

“If you want a sacrifice, take me! I’m the one who killed the unicorn, I’m the one who should pay for it!” Arthur’s raised voice was clearly doing nothing to convince Anhora. His chest heaving as his mind raced around what to do. Taking an innocent life was never a possibility, but he also couldn’t let his people suffer any longer.
He glanced back at Merlin expecting to see the same anger or even a disobedient quip on the tip of his tongue, but what he saw scared him more than anything. Merlin was looking down at the sword, watching as the sand danced over the metal. He looked determined, but it wasn’t a look Arthur was happy to see. It was the look of a boy who knew what needed to be done.

Break the Cutie - aka: When a sweet and loveable character, who you adore and root for, is slowly tormented in front of your very eyes. And well, Merlin is awfully cute after all... :)
Long story short, I’ve set myself a little challenge to write a fic for every single episode of Merlin. 65 episodes means 65 opportunities to hurt my favourite character because who doesn't love some good ol' whumpy angst! (I’m definitely going to regret this decision but I’m determined to complete them all.)
