Enjolras had always assumed that he wouldn't get the soulmate tattoo on his twenty first birthday. With the revolution drawing so near, he didn't have time for romance. If they failed, he would die, and nobody new would even speak to him. If they didn't, he would be so focused on establishing the new Republic that it wouldn't matter.
Grantaire thought Enjolras already had his tattoo. He told them all that he was twenty-six, after all.

Lance remembered the feeling when Blue hit the side of the wormhole.
The whole lion had let out a convulsive shudder and the lighting in the cabin sputtered. Everything was twisting and turning and, dare he say, undulating around him. If it was because they were spiraling out of control or because of the time-space-travel mumbo jumbo that came with wormhole technology, he wasn't sure. His stomach disagreed with it all the same and he soon found himself having a hard time controlling the urge to retch.
Stranded after the wormhole jump, Lance finds himself alone and thinking way too much.

"A really weird day," Lance finishes finally, and looks away from Keith at the moon.

Prince S'chn T'gai Spock of Vulcan, engaged to Prince James Tiberius Kirk of Earth through an arrangement made by their parents many years ago, writes to his intended on the day of his birth in the interest of diplomacy. Jim is not interested in diplomacy. Though there is no precedent set for the commencement of a written correspondence begun due to these specific parameters, I will strive to maintain, to the best of my abilities and with ample preparatory research previously conducted, the appropriate level of formality between us, based on a number of factors, primarily examples of a similar nature.

Bookmarker's Notes
EPISTOLARY / ROMANCE-DRAMA — The first part of this fic is strictly an epistolary (roughly the first 20 chapters or so). This is the basis of Spock and Jim’s relationship. They grew close, grown fond of each other, experience a couple of bumps on the road, but make it all right in the end.
The second part of this fic is prose (with a couple of chapters, >5 strictly in epistolary form.) This starts on their Vulcan marriage ceremony. Where miscommunication messes things up. Through their initial communications they had both built versions of each other in their heads that didn’t match the reality. Jim is infatuated and a horny teenager, but Spock is wholly unprepared to mirror him and is asexual to boot (or at least, would prefer not to be in the throes of sex, ig.) The rest of the fic is spent 95% on Jim’s POV as he starts to acclimate to the reality of his marriage and the limitations thereof.
THOUGHTS — Great read. The epistolary part was great. Not so great near the end (somewhere around chapter 15-20 I started skimming it big time), but the banter and the character voices were well done. The prose part was compelling and very very well written. I like the character conflicts a lot. Actually, this fic is entirely character-driven, which I like. I’m not so fond of the use of miscommunication as a catalyst for the drama (I like that it’s ironic cause they start up doing nothing BUT communicating, but it’s a pet-peeve of mine). And let me tell you, that drives like a good chunk of the drama. Well, that and Spock’s chosen asexual and aromantic (initially) stance (which would not have been an issue if they had just talked about it lol.) I found the romance to be rather underwhelming. It was...just missing that spark(?). Like their confessions where just that. Nothing ground breaking, nor even mildly relavatory.
I guess I’m too much of a romantic at heart lol. Anyway, despite the fact that I found the romance so-so (if I were to describe it, it’s very much like a period-romance kind of fic. Aka, slow burn that hurts but the good kind of hurt — but lacking the high-impact and overly emotional and poetic scenes that makes period-romance so so frustratingly good). I don’t dislike the characters themselves. Quite the opposite, in fact. I really love the characters. They’re all very complex. I also like the subtleties and the implications behind certain relationship milestones. So, even if I found the resolution of the romance lacking, I really enjoyed the initial build-up to the romance. The author leaves much up for interpretation (whether by choice or not, it’s done really well and invites a story beyond whats naturally there), so it is, again, very similar to those old-school period romance fiction.
Overall? Very great read. Not quite what I was hoping for climactically. But that’s just a personal opinion, I’m sure there are plenty who will find this fic more than gratifying. It’s the kind of fic you can’t forget. That’s for sure. I’m definitely coming back to read it again one of these days. Maybe I’ll like it even better the second time around (that’s been known to happen quite often.)

It starts at the onsen.
Taka doesn't mean for it to happen. He doesn't mean to stumble upon Lord Sakai sitting in the pool with his well-defined arms and his sparse chest hair on display, his eyes closed and his face calm. He doesn't mean to look, either, as Sakai opens his eyes and gives him a nod, standing up to step out of the hot pool, his naked body gleaming tantalizingly in the steam, his flat belly, his strong thighs, his shapely ass.
Taka doesn't mean to stare but above all, he doesn't mean to get caught doing it.

Bookmarker's Notes
ALTERNATE UNIVERSE — The Tom in this universe is much changed. He’s still a dark lord, but he only made two Horcruxes, and he took his ascent to power slowly. He’s also more for equality than solely pureblood sovereignty. The story starts with him as the DADA professor, and Harry as his 6th Year student. Harry, in this fic, is also slightly OOC. He has abilities that he’s hidden all his life. Abilities that make him the most powerful magical being in the century. He resents this power, and never tries to use it. Until Tom goads him into doing so, and later, trains him to use it well.
THOUGHTS — stopped reading because the story is not my taste. It’s pretty well-written I think. And the plot is unique. Honestly, idk what it is about that I don’t like. So, I’m just putting it down as a personal preference thing or a present mood thing for now. And might try to read it again later, when I’m feeling more patient to explore an alternate universe.
