jin ling is so small in his arms but the wails he lets out make jiang cheng feel even smaller. he feels so out of place, too young to be a sect leader, alone in a world that does not believe Yunmeng will ever flourish, alone in his room with a baby, his sister’s son, his nephew and he has no idea what he can do to make it better.
jiang cheng isn't ready to lead. or raise his nephew. or grieve. but yunmeng's lake might help him wash away some hesitation, at least for tonight.

“It’s you,” Lan Wangji says when the silence feels too oppressive.
Jiang Wanyin lifts his head and there is a questioning look on his face.
“The illness,” Lan Wangji clarifies. “It is you who are afflicted.”
Jiang Wanyin has the effrontery to look amused. “Hanguang Jun,” he says. “Are you accusing me of having a heart?”
Lan Wangji glares at the man. Despite being married to Wei Ying, this brand of Yunmeng humour is something he has never been able to understand, and he doesn’t think he ever will. He knows that Wei Ying uses it as an attempt to deflect when his feelings are too much, and it appears that Jiang Wanyin is the same.
