Summary
Messy brown hair was the first thing he saw before taking in the rest of his features. The five o’clock shadow did wonders for him making him look both young and mature at the same time. His jawline sharp and defined. Dignified. And warm brown eyes deep in focus as he talked with the captain.

After the tsunami Eddie isn't dealing with it as well as he wants Buck to believe. Lena gives him an outlet. Too bad it results in a serious brain injury.
He stared at Eddie for a moment longer, taking it all in: the closed eyes, bandage around his head, chest rising and falling steadily with the beeping of machines. “You’re an idiot.” He whispered, as the first tear of what would probably be many slipped down his face. -

“It’s not just going to be me, you, and daddy tonight. Daddy’s friend Lena is joining us.” Buck explained and Christopher’s smile dropped off his face. “Hey what’s wrong, buddy?”
“I don’t want her there. I don’t like her.” Chris sounded rather upset, so Buck quickly pulled off the road and parked at a nearby park. He shut off the engine and turned around to face Chris.
“Christopher, why don’t you like her?” Buck questioned, but Chris shook his head and looked out of the window. “Come on, bud. What’s wrong?” Christopher sighed before turning to look at Buck.
“I don’t like her because she’s taking daddy’s attention.” Buck felt his heart break.

make Buck reconsider his decision? -

"This is my boyfriend, Eddie," Buck replied, realizing his mistake the moment the words escaped his big stupid mouth.
He had meant to say 'best friend' not boyfriend, he really had. They were similar titles, easy enough to say the wrong one.

When Buck said he was a "bartender" in "South America" what he actually meant was "stripper" in "Mexico."
And when Eddie said, "What's your problem?" what he actually meant was, "Is this about the time you gave me a lap dance?"
In other words, there's a few things the 118 doesn't know about Buck. Or Eddie. Or Buck and Eddie's relationship.

Eddie’s heard these stories before. Buck has a lot of them. The random, wild nonsense that he got up to as a kid. But Eddie’s never considered who's missing from the stories until it’s pointed out to him: Buck’s parents. They should have been there to reassure him, to hold his hand. But they weren't. Buck was alone growing up. All alone.
Eddie never wants Buck to have to be alone again.

Summary
eddie was the middle child – and the only boy. that had come with a weight of expectation that eddie, even now, in his thirties, was only beginning to fully grasp. eddie had been raised to be a provider - to provide a house, a car, a healthy bank balance, because that was what a real man did for his family, that was what his father had taught him.
it had been a shock, to realise that wasn't what buck needed from their newly blossoming relationship.
or - the one where eddie learns about love languages, sees the value in couples counselling, and allows himself to cry.

He’s breaking the rules, he knows it. They’re not supposed to have any evidence of what they’ve been doing, no tangible proof that they’re hooking up. And Buck understands that, understands how quickly everything could unravel if someone asked him why he’s got a dark pink hotel key tucked away in his wallet.
But he needs this.

Buck loves Christopher. Buck clearly loves both of them. He and Eddie haven't said it to each other yet, but it's in every gesture, every word. Every package of dinosaur nuggets Buck keeps in his refrigerator. Every time he sends a text because he saw a video of dogs looking ashamed after destroying stuff and he knows Eddie will think it's funny. The care he takes when he carries Chris to bed. How he looks at Eddie when he thinks Eddie's asleep.
It turns out that being in a secret relationship with your best friend in an active fire department is kind of a life-altering situation, once it's suddenly not a secret anymore.

Eddie doesn’t do it particularly often, but it’s a nice tool to have under his belt when he needs it. It’s the most effective way he’s found to ground Buck when he’s freaking out, to get him out of his own head. And it’s simple for Eddie, too, because it’s not as intimidating as big, dramatic conversations about emotions and feelings that he always screws up because he can’t find the words. It’s easy, natural, and it works.
For my love, who asked me for Buck getting flustered whenever Eddie calls him "Evan."

Summary
Buck doesn’t think that if he were to say, “I’m in a bad place”, that anyone would turn him away. Really, he doesn’t. The 118 has too many good, kind people for that.
But every time he wants to open his mouth, to say something, to reach out to Eddie or Bobby or Hen or Chim, he hears Eddie yelling, “you’re exhausting.”
—you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting—
So each day he does his job and he laughs and he jokes and he pretends he’s the care-free goofball he’s always been. And each day he packs away his bruises and his worries, takes them home to his empty loft with its quiet rooms, and licks his wounds in silence.

The voice had always been around, Eddie remembers it, like a stream of consciousness that babbled incoherently to the point where Eddie just tuned it out.
But then the voice started speaking directly to him. Conversing like he was a whole person standing right in front of him. Like he could see what was happening around Eddie.
Eddie shook his head. No one was talking to him, and Eddie most certainly was not talking back.
He wouldn’t talk to the boy in his head ever again. There was no boy in his head.

Buck was just reheating a plate for Eddie when he heard a very familiar snort behind him.
"Okay, what now," he said expectantly.
"So," Hen drawled, "you have one plate on the counter, steaming, already had a couple of bites. And now you've got a second plate," she gestured at the microwave to the reheating lasagne, "and we all know who that plate's for."
Buck looked at her, tilting his head. "I mean, I always make a plate for Eddie," he said, confused.
