Jerome shrugged at her, turning back to Alfred as he set his pockets in order. “That kosher?”
“Peachy,” Alfred muttered, unlocking the passenger-side door. “Get in before I change my mind.”

The one thing she can talk to isn't a person, and may not have her best interests in mind. Of course, she might not, either.
I felt like writing some gloomy flow of consciousness nonsense, so expect needlessly wordy repetition at times.
