Summary
Tangled AU where Rapunzel dies in SOTS due to not being able to control the black rocks. The Sundrop is returned to flower form and Eugene must take Varian on a journey to the Dark Kingdom in order to use the Moonstone's powers to bring her back. However, unbeknownst to Eugene, Varian had fabricated the possibility of bringing Rapunzel back from the dead in fear of going to prison and doesn't actually know if it will work.

Despite having a room in the castle, having all of the space he could need in private labs and materials, and not having to visit Old Corona unless he wanted to- Varian still felt something was off. Something itched underneath his skin, made him uncomfortable looking at his reflection for too long. Varian felt uncomfortable in his own body. Every time he thought too hard about his past, stopped tinkering and designing for more than an hour, he wound up pulling his hair and close to tears. Varian was unhappy. Varian was very very unhappy for a royally appointed seventeen year old.

Perhaps the boy had been broken enough when he was sent to prison.
Some believed he was beyond repair, maybe they were right.But that didn't mean Queen Arianna and King Frederic doesn't want to help.
But every attempt was useless, every time they came back to see him, his eyes are still dead, devoid of any emotion, his eyes were too broken.
But maybe there's one person who can help: Eugene Fitzherbert.
He may had been the King's last resort but he believes it won't be fruitless. If there was anyone who made King Frederic believe about redemption, it is him, his son in-law.
So there he was, alongside the gang, forced to venture upon the unknown paths to fulfill the quest of finding anwers. And in the process of doing so, he finds out that maybe Eugene isn't such a bad person after all.
Too bad brothely bonds can't stop a war.
