Summary
Prompt (Taken from @writing.prompt.s on Instagram): The amount of money your soulmate currently has appears over your head. The number over your head has always been low. Then one day, while sitting in your car, it suddenly shoots up and surpasses $1,000,000. Seconds later, someone jumps into your car and yells, “DRIVE!”
OR:
Sammy Stevens never believed in soulmates. In fact, he had never really given his much thought, despite seeing the number float above his head every single day. So how in the hell did Sammy find himself taking a road trip with a man who hijacked his car across the damn country?

“Maybe that’s what’s got Wright all in a tizzy over you. I swear to God he hasn’t shut up about Sammy this and Sammy that in two fucking weeks. It’s enough to make me sick,” Herschel says. “Then again, Arnold isn’t much better. They keep telling me that I shouldn’t put you through the wringer until you’re feeling better.”
It’s very clear to Sammy what Herschel’s general disposition is on the subject of feeling better.

Summary
The first time Mary saw him again, she was in the grocery store, in the bread aisle. She could tell it was not-Tim but only a little, the walk was too stiff and he was staring at her with too-bright eyes but then he blinked and it was like she was looking at her husband. It made her heart start to beat out of her chest.

Summary
“How’d you end up in the theatre department?” Jack asks, gesturing toward the two stools in the booth as he steps backward to take a seat in one. Tentative, Sammy follows suit. It’s less intimidating, both of them sitting in front of a rather large soundboard. Gives Sammy something else to look at. “Mary just told me she found me an assistant who was doing homework at rehearsal.”
“My best friend’s playing Algernon,” Sammy says, and leans over the board to the small window separating the sound booth from the black box. He can just make out Ben in one of the corners, jumping up and down. Probably a warm-up, since Emily and Reagan are doing it next to him, but that’s also just Ben’s energy. “I go into anaphylactic shock when he’s more than two feet from me.”
Sammy turns to see Jack biting down on a smile. Christ, he’s cute. His eyes are green, and Sammy hates that especially about him.
[A ridiculous, pining college theatre au.]

“See, here’s the thing,” Ben turns to Ron with his biggest smile. “That guy from the radio station – I know I was making fun earlier, but Sammy really likes him, and I don’t think he’s gonna do anything about it.”
“You know, Benny, If I’m rememberin’ right, you’ve been banned from setting him up,” Ron swats Ben’s head with a dishcloth. “Under pain of death, I think were Sammy’s exact words. Ever since the Football Incident.”
“Don’t talk about that while he’s in earshot or he’ll never shut up about it,” Ben casts a surreptitious glance at the doorway, but no one comes. Presumably Sammy is properly distracted by playing Trivial Pursuit with the kids. “He won’t kill me. Sammy talks big but he’s all melty on the inside.”

“Sometimes… I wonder, if the shoe were on the other foot… if whatever it was that grabbed him had grabbed me instead, I wonder how far Jack would’ve went to save me. And I know that he would’ve brought me back. No matter where, or what had taken me.” - Sammy Stevens, Episode 68
[ AU where Sammy is trapped in the Void instead of Jack, and Jack goes to King Falls to rescue him as well as host the show. Things are similar, but not quite the same. ]

Summary
“This is Sammy,” Ben said, taking a hold of Sammy’s elbow, presumably so Sammy can’t cut and run. “He was my mentor, since there was no one – no one else from Twelve who could do it. He’s….the only reason I’m alive.”
“Ben,” Sammy started, fond but he didn’t want Ben to sell himself short. He didn’t have much time to think on that, however, because in the next second, Betty Arnold is hugging him, too, holding on tighter than Sammy can take right now.
It had been so long since someone hugged him like that.

Summary
Sammy didn’t feel it at first, even as the crowd around Grisham gasped. Sammy’s Games were more than a decade ago. They’d long faded away, as horrible as that sounded. But there was a Games that haunted him even more, one that floored him fast and hard, and suddenly he found it difficult to breathe, something like tears blurring in his eyes though they felt too hot, too painful, more like acid than anything else.
District Five had Victors to choose from. Death had stopped scaring Sammy a long time ago.
What rattled him to his core was that District Twelve didn’t have Victors to choose from. District Twelve just had the two. Just had Ben Arnold. Ben Arnold and Emily Potter.
That – that was worse than death. Ben Arnold and Emily Potter back in the Games, after everything they’d been through, and Sammy still alive on the other side. There was nothing worse than that.
