He imagines how Hermann’s voice might burst across his vision. Newton imagines the deep red-purple of draping fabric, the lint-moth brown of Oxford, the heavy cream of linen and glazed pastries. He reads Hermann’s letters and cherishes the shape-colour of them in his own voice.
Hermann’s voice is an olive green that stutters Newton for a moment and he’s never been good at first impressions always too focused on the colours and ways he knows he’s going to mess it up and Hermann goes from lovely olive green to a shade of blistering orange with rage. -
