Summary
“He has a point, Flower,” Braden said with a grin. “A certain former-captain of yours couldn’t seem to keep his eyes off you when you walked in. He’s been staring at you all throughout dinner.” Marie-Andre ran a hand through her hair.
“He’s not interested,” she shook her head. “Sid has been avoiding me since we arrived in Tampa. In fact, he’s been distant since the expansion draft. I'm sure he wants nothing to do with me.”
Henrik gave the other goaltenders a knowing look.

Summary
People don't shift anymore, not fully. The closest most people get is antsy around the full moon, restlessness rooted in ancestral memory. There are some people, though, who get closer to their wolf, and an even smaller number among them that get feral. Something about playing goal, about giving someone a territory to protect and an opposing pack coming at them, draws the animal so close to the surface that eventually it can't be put away.
Or maybe it can.

“I just miss you,” Sid says, voice breaking and feeling raw.
“Sid.” Flower’s tone through the phone is gentle and understanding, the same he uses to coax a sprout into gently unfurling, and Sid’s heart hurts.
“I’m sending you something,” Flower says, when Sid doesn’t respond, “be careful with it, okay?” -

Summary
The first day of training camp, Sid's taking the turn for airport parking before he realises that he's not supposed to be there. A chorus of car horns accompanies his last minute correction, and again when he nearly takes the turn back towards his house, instead of towards the arena.
It's no big deal, he tells himself firmly. He spent a lot of time flying around over the summer, and he was distracted, thinking about the start of hockey again. He's fine. Everything's fine.

It'd be the stupidest idea in the world, wouldn't it, for a man born with no heart to fall in love.

Summary
He knew stuff like this happened all the time, happened to most of them eventually. Some guys, like Sid, had long stretches of it, a career’s worth of magic crammed into two years worth of anxiety. Other guys, like Phil, got it doled out in almost microscopic doses, there and gone over the course of a maintenance day. Price literally fell apart the summer Subban was traded; Lu had some tentacle shit he had to cram up under his tie-down before every game in Vancouver in 2010.
But for Marc, of course, it never came.

Summary
It was Sidney's first trip outside North America; being so far away from his usual routines, the unreality of being on a completely different continent, made Sidney feel bigger, lit up from the inside, like everyone would be able to see through his skin if they looked.
And Marc looked. He was always looking. Sidney knew because he was always looking back.

Summary
The house in Vegas has all of the sounds he's grown used to but none of the familiarity, and the house in Pittsburgh feels right but doesn’t sound that way anymore and Sid can’t help but feel like it’s never going to feel right.
This is their new reality, though, his family thousands of miles away, leaving Sid alone in the city he thought he’d made a home in.

Summary
“I just want to play hockey, Sid,” Flower says. “You should know how that feels better than anyone.”
Sid does probably knows how it feels better than anyone. He pushed every other dream aside because that one had grown so much, ballooned into something that took up every aspect of his life until there wasn’t room until anything left.
Sid still wants to play hockey, of course. He wants other things, too, though.
The decision has already been made. Flower doesn’t need Sid to make him feel worse about it. “I do,” he whispers, hoping that it comes across as the benediction it is.

Summary
Marc’s smiles are few and far between, even after such a resounding win. Flower stopped 41 shots in a 5 nothing shut out, but the trade rumors are blood in the water for the hungry scrum of reporters. They leave him pinched and unhappy, and Sid finds this utterly unacceptable.
