He and Dean aren’t exactly talking at the moment, but an unlikely angel may be there to do his best to care for Sam in Dean’s absence. If only a cold was all Sam had to deal with, but he’s reminded of the trauma he’s been through no matter how he tries to distract himself.

Dean's escaped from Purgatory and ready to get back to normal. He just wants to find his brother and travel the country together, killing monsters and occasionally stopping apocalypses. Life can be perfect again, especially since Sam's newfound coping mechanism of avoiding stressful situations (like Dean yelling at him) jibes perfectly with his own longstanding method of ignoring everything he can't deal with (like Sam not looking for him) until the occasional whiskey-fueled violent outburst.
But Crowley's organized all of hell after them, and he's not giving up. They're fighting demons one day and angels the next, and frankly, Dean's tired of not knowing what the hell's going on. Former allies-and friends-are turning on them. Crowley claims Sam stole something from him, and when Castiel shows up, he tries to put a blade through Sam's chest, screaming 'abomination' the whole time.
What happened while he was in Purgatory?Canon-compliant up to the end of season 7. Warnings for non-explicit rape/non-con and swearing.

Vampires got Sam just over three months ago. Dean, desperate, asks their friend Hayden (OC) to help him hunt down and save his little brother. They get him out of there, only to realize they've barely just started saving him.
The come down from the demon blood they forced into him is particularly nasty this time, as is the shapeshifter coming after it's lost prize. Dean and Hayden can only try to ease Sam's suffering and wait to see if the shapeshifter does find them and break through their defenses...
...which include Hayden's powers. The ones she knows about and the ones she keeps discovering as she tries to soothe and protect the brothers.
