4 Works in Sam Cassidy & Malcolm Tucker
28 Sep 2020
Malcolm Tucker has settled into his new life of incarceration when a mysterious recommendation has freed him from the custody of the Crown, only to fall under the command of UNIT and the Director of Mainframe UK.
[solidly Malcolm/Kate beginning in ch7, with other ships throughout*; contains strong Tucker-esque language, mature situations, situations concerning home and/or work, and many, MANY OCs/canon cameos throughout; has been updating for years, with plans on continuing for many more, so if you need a long-burner that attempts to update regularly then this is the fic for you]
[*other romantic ships contain varying levels of: OC/OC, Pinkwald, Whouffaldi (as of ch.15, with sustained reminders throughout), and others to be added as time goes on]
- Part 1 of The Thick of UNIT
“Nic’la, I need a kidney transplant.” Malcolm blurted out.
Nicola stood there stunned among a sea of people protesting for a People’s Vote. “What?” She asked, so sure she’d misheard.
Malcolm walked over to her. “I’ve been on dialysis for the past two years. I need a transplant.”
Malcolm Tucker has survived a lot and he is, in more ways than one, very damaged, both physically and emotionally. Not that he would admit it of course.
However, a chance encounter with Nicola Murray on his sixtieth birthday has the potential to change his life.

“It started with tiredness.
Malcolm looked at his papers and couldn’t process anything. His brain wouldn’t let him. He needed sleep, he knew that. He just didn’t want to admit it.”
Labour won the general election in 2010, much to the surprise of everyone. Malcolm goes back to his job as the Labour spin doctor, but over the autumn, gets progressively sicker and is eventually diagnosed and hospitalised with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, a rare and particularly aggressive blood cancer.
He has to straddle the line between his sickness, his family, his friends and his work all while dealing with the side effects from his treatments and the medical interventions designed to save his life.
The worst part? He has to watch the lives of his loves ones crumble around him while he and they all try so desperately to hold it together.
