Charlie is with his friends Tao, Elle and Isaac who have finally convinced him to leave his dorm room tonight and head over to Queens Court, one of the local queer bars in Leeds for a retro disco night. Charlie has been inconsolable and was isolating after he and Nick, his boyfriend of the last four years, broke it off in a vicious fight, how it started he didn't want to remember. But they had said some pretty unforgiveable things to each other, and Nick hasn’t spoken to him since.
And Charlie still can’t quite believe it when he spots Nick, yes, his Nick, making out with some random pretty girl near the bar.

Charlie thinks Geoff probably meant joining a band, or maybe rock climbing, and not seducing fit guys, who are way out of his league, for one night stands. Same results though, so what's the harm?

Summary
In this universe Nick Nelson never sat next to Charlie Spring in form. In fact he spent a lot of effort on staying far away from the gay boy from year 10 because he couldn't look at him without feeling ashamed of his own cowardice.
Nick grows up to be a pro rugby player. The people close to him know he's bi, but in his line of work coming out could ruin his whole career. Maybe taking part in the reality show Dancing on Ice with a male partner is a good way to test the waters on a public reaction. That's what Nick's agent thinks at least. If he’s mainly in because he’s crushing hard on one of the pro ice-skaters, Charlie Spring, nobody but Nick needs to know that…
The only problem is, Charlie hates his guts, and Nick has no clue why. Can they still make it work somehow?

Nick gave a strained and nervous smile. “Yeah, mate.”
“Wicked!” Sai exclaimed and proceeded to punch Christian in the shoulder. Christian yelped and looked none too pleased. “I so called this!”
Charlie blinked. What.
“What?” Nick echoed his sentiment, his voice hoarse with shock.
“Well, you guys weren’t exactly discreet,” Sai pointed out and cocked his eyebrow. “Really, mate, you got as excitable as a puppy every time Charlie was near. And the way you two clung to each other at Rugby practice – well, let’s just say, you’ve never tackled me like that before.”
Everyone burst out laughing with the rugby lads, and Nick joined in with his own chuckle after a moment. Charlie could still read his apprehension in the tightness of his shoulders, though.
“No, I guess not,” Nick responded. He looked fondly over at Charlie again, reaching up to tuck on a strand of hair affectionately. “I’m kind of fond of this one.”
