Making it all the way home carrying her family on her back was impossible, but for all her ill-health Jiāng Yànlí was of Yúnmèng. Her arms trembled with effort, her breaths sawing in her chest; her muscles screamed, but still she fought to uphold her sect’s creed. Her focus wanted to narrow to the pain, the wet ground, the sad tinkling of her clarity bell, but the sniffling of her baby brother—both her baby brothers—kept intruding, driving her on. Her newest brother was still wracked with fine tremors at the thought being carried towards dogs, and her youngest brother clutched her robes in unspoken guilt. Jiāng Yànlí had no doubt his other hand gripped Wèi Wúxiàn in similar sentiment.

People keep trying to kill Jin Ling. Luckily, he's not alone.Jin Ling assumed that the reason no one had managed to kill him before he turned sixteen had been his uncle. If he took more than a moment to think about this, he realized he didn’t know which uncle he really meant. They were, after all, both intimidating in their own way. One, famously quick to anger. The other, famously competent. Famously competent and quietly the most dangerous man none of them had ever really known.
That is to say, apparently one less uncle meant that the assassination attempts could be renewed. A fact that was becoming quite clear now as the spots swimming in front of his eyes began to coalesce into a dark, world-erasing cloud.

“Is that…?” Lan Wangji whispered. The juniors were looking back and forth between Jiang Cheng and...Jiang Cheng.
The man that stood before them, weapon at the ready, was most certainly Jiang Cheng, from everything down to his hairstyle, icy scowl, and his glowing whip. But he appeared much younger, almost by two decades.
“What is this?” The younger Jiang Cheng snapped, Zidian began to spark angrily. “Is this some sort of trick? What the hell is going on? Are you the reason why we’re here?”
“...We?” The older Jiang Cheng mumbled in confusion. But then all of a sudden, he saw a baby version of his nephew peek out behind the man’s leg, staring at the two Jiang Chengs with a look of wonder and amazement.

The Sunshot Campaign has begun in earnest. Jiang Cheng (now Lan Xinyue) waits for Lan Xichen whenever he returns to Cloud Recesses, always looking forward to the moments they can steal together.
Distrust is rife: during a rushed meeting at Qinghe, Jiang Cheng's identity is called into question, and it is only with Lan Qiren's intervention that he is saved from revealing himself. Unexpectedly, Jiang Cheng ends up having an impromptu heart-to-heart with Meng Yao, forming the tentative beginnings of a new friendship. Lan Xichen misreads the situation, compelling Jiang Cheng to clarify the nature of their relationship and to finally confess his feelings.
