Summary
Well you're not what I was looking for
But your arms were open at my door
And you taught me what a life is for
To see that ordinary, isn't
And you don't hold back
So I won't hold back
And you don't look back
So I won't look back
Ingrid Michaelson - Light Me Up.Ray looks back on his journey while waiting for his plane.

All the things Ray told himself he didn’t want when they were back in Chicago freeze when they’re exposed to the cold and shatter into icy shards. He hasn’t been running on instinct, not really, not for a long time.

Summary
Of all the different ways I'd imagined getting myself back to Canada, investigating a crime hadn't made the list. But Welsh called me into his office one morning, and I knew when he flipped the blinds closed that it was something serious. He had a file on the desk in front of him, and he was drumming his fingers on it as though he was trying to work out where to start. Finally he said, “I had a call from Inspector Major last night.” That gave me a hell of a jolt: Inspector Joan Major was Fraser's new boss up at Depot. He'd taken a temporary position there running some training courses for the RCMP.

Summary
Fraser sat on the edge of his bed and stared into space, his hands fingering a shirt. The man who wore it only days ago was heading south. All that was left was his memory - and the bad feeling something was totally wrong.

Summary
Ray knew it was going to happen. Hell, he’s pretty sure everyone, even deaf wolves, knew it was going to happen. Him and Fraser had been circling around each other since Ray took the undercover job as Ray Vecchio and Welsh had told him, “also, there’s a Mountie. It’s a whole thing.”
So maybe he should have felt prepared.

Summary
Picks up directly after Constellation Points , but with a distinctly different age rating. (Reading Constellation Points first isn't required, but it makes the opening a bit less abrupt!) Fraser and Ray K. have embarked upon their northern adventure, but Ray is starting to wonder if maybe he's been misinterpreting Fraser's signals; a stopover at a rural inn provides him with proof that he has not been. He and Fraser proceed to spend about fifteen pages trying very hard to successfully touch one another without accidentally saying something stupid or dying of embarrassment. Things get hot and heavy, and they talk through the meaning of 'partnership.'

Summary
Ray Vecchio thinks about what it will take to move on with his life. Benton Fraser thinks about how to tell the man he loves and the man he once loved what they need to hear. Ray Kowalski thinks about how he's pretty sure Fraser is going to dissolve their partnership. All three of them are hopelessly awkward, but eventually everything gets cleared up.
(A brief warning: this is intended to be fairly canon-compliant. Ray V. & Fraser definitely have/had feelings for one another, but no matter how much I love Ray V., Fraser and Ray K. are endgame here. And yes, I am writing a post-Call of the Wild fic in the year 2020. I'm hoping this falls under the two cakes rule .)

Summary
By the end of the quest, Ray knows Fraser so well that he can pretty much predict what he’ll say to anything except of course to that one question, “Will you have me or not Frase?” Ray, being a good detective, weighs all the evidence to decide if he’ll say something to Fraser about how he feels.

Summary
"Ray recollects an iceberg they’d seen calving in Melville Sound. The berg had been hanging onto its parent glacier by the thinnest bridge of ice, and Fraser had pulled them away from the threatened violence as quickly as possible. The iceberg hung there for long moments that ached into an unbearable tension before it crashed into the icy sea, sending shock waves through the water and disrupting even the air with its ferocious birth.
Fraser has that same waiting energy - suspended in his stasis by some unknown hesitation, delaying for something Ray doesn’t understand at first."
