Aang held out his hand, stepping just behind her. He could see her posture stiffen. “Take my hand,” he said.
Katara shuddered, slumping forward. “I can’t,” she whispered, lips barely parting.

Summary
“We’ll be together someday. I won’t stop looking until I find you again.”
Those words, Sokka thought, were a blessing.
After living through several lives without Zuko, they now feel like a curse.
They were the last words Sokka muttered to the Fire Lord on his death bed after saving Avatar Korra from an attempted kidnapping, and while he meant them, he didn't know that they would come true.
Yet, he tried, tried, tried again, and after cycling into his fourth life, he's starting to give up hope.
All until he walks into the Jasmine Dragon right next to Republic City University's campus.

Summary
When the Hundred Years' War ended, Sokka and Prince Zuko did not part as friends; instead they were always bitter rivals. In Sokka's eyes, anyway. Years later, he still harbors his grudge, and Zuko still strides around like he's perfect - which is exactly the problem.
It isn't such a big deal, until the Crown Prince Lu Ten invites the Southern Water Tribe to his wedding, and Sokka must represent Cheif Hakoda at the ceremony and reception. It isn't such a big deal, until he and Zuko nearly come to blows and ruin Lu Ten's wedding cake.
To prevent panic and international strife, Sokka and Zuko feign a doting friendship, and Sokka perhaps begins to see Zuko in a different light.
This is ABSOLUTELY a Red, White, & Royal Blue inspired AU. Oof. -

Summary
Kai had been tending to the sick of Ba Sing Se her whole life, but she had never seen a fever like this. Wiping the sweat from Lee's forehead was a fruitless effort as it spilled from beneath his shorn hair. She slid down the blanket to reveal his bare chest and laid a gentle hand down to feel his heartbeat. Kai screamed in pain before she could find a pulse, flying backward and knocking over her bucket of water as she gripped her burning hand to her heart, backing into a vase a shattering it in her shock. The loud commotion instantly summoned the boy's uncle who appeared in the doorway. Kai looked at the old man wide-eyed. She could feel the blood pulsing through her blistered hand and looked down to see the tender red skin across her palm. She held out the damaged hand to the old man.
"You're not who you say you are."
Ever since the incident, Kai was aware of Iroh and Zuko's true identities. She helped around the tea shop and kept Zuko company, much to his delight, but when Zuko betrayed Kai and returned to the Fire Nation with Azula, Kai finds herself being scarred by the selfishness of the boy she once thought she was falling in love with.

He doesn't say anything. Then again, he doesn't really need to. She knows exactly how he feels – it isn't just hers, this tangle of confusion and longing, this strange, disorientating sting of clarity that somehow has only made everything else seem even more complicated.

Summary
The Hundred Year War has been over for four years now, and the leaders of the various nations and kingdoms are still trying to smooth over relations, especially regarding the Fire Nation. The Chiefs of the Northern and Southern Water Tribes decide that the best way to build a good relationship with the Fire Nation is to arrange a marriage for the Firelord. This poses somewhat of a problem though, since the Southern Princess is dating the Avatar himself and the Northern Princess has been living her best life as a literal celestial body for the past five years. So the Chiefs and the Royal Advisors have to get...creative.
This is based off a text post by @gayavatarstyle on tumblr bc. It was too good to pass up.

Summary
When Azula met her brother in Ba Sing Se & told him he could come home, he believed her, even though she had made this exact offer before. This time there was no loose-lipped Captain to give the game away, & he was brought back to the Fire Nation not as a hero, but in chains.
When he is dragged from his cell months later, he expects to be facing his execution, not his coronation.

Summary
Suddenly, the stall in front of them exploded. Aang quickly thrust out his arms, throwing up a shield of air. Men started descending around them, clad in black robes and masks that covered half their faces, with headbands that read ‘Ozai’.
“FREE FIRE LORD OZAI!! POWER TO THE FIRE NATION! IMPOSTOR! IMPOSTOR!” they chanted in unison, hands alight with fire.
Some dialogue was taken from the comic Smoke and Shadow.ATLA Secret Santa gift for @hugeatlafan.

The friend (of sorts) Zuko was easily most intimidated by turns out to be the one he becomes closest to over time. Taking a direct strike of lightening (courtesy of his dear sister) definitely helped in that regard.

Summary
“You can’t be serious,” complained Sokka, banging his forehead on the table. He was sure to have a lingering red mark. He did not care. “Zuko why?”
Zuko, being the Fire Lord, was entitled to order his citizens around. He was not entitled to order Sokka around, and he was going to remind him of that little fact until he forgot about the time that he and Aang performed a dragon dance together. (It was not a proper fighting form. It was not.)
“I can’t believe Zuko is making us go with you to talk about Water Tribe history,” grumbled Sokka, his voice muffled by the hard surface. He pressed his face further into the tabletop.

Or, Sokka is forced to try not to embarrass himself at a Fire Nation school.
