Summary
After his breakup with Taylor, Buck decides not to date anyone on the premise of ‘we’re having fun together, let’s see where this goes’ and to focus on potential serious partners instead. When he determines what a serious partner means to him, he realizes every single quality and wish points straight to his best friend. So, in short, Buck is doomed.

Summary
Eddie came out around six months ago, and Chris has been trying to encourage Eddie to embrace it more. One time, he grabbed a pack of rainbow napkins at the supermarket and unceremoniously dropped it into the shopping cart. He also chose ‘Out’ on movie night, which made both Buck and Eddie cry (Chris just watched them with a raised eyebrow before giving both of them a tight hug). In any case, it’s all been… good. He means it.
It’s just… there’s a capital ‘T’ Thorn that’s prickling Buck’s heart and is making it slowly bleed out.
Or: ceramics, fish, and names that start with a T. Add two pining idiots into the mix and the plot thickens.
Or or: Buck is pining for his best friend and copes with a new hobby. Who knew fish would bring them together?

Summary
Buck finds the biggest downside to being single is being alone with his thoughts in a too big, empty apartment. It had never truly felt like home not even when Taylor tragically moved in but now, it feels like home even less. Being here makes him miss Eddie, miss Christopher, miss stolen moments in which he pretends to have everything he knows is always just out of reach.
The black duffel bag that sits at the foot of the stairs leading up to his bedroom mocks him, reminding him he’s always just passing through, never allowed to stay in the place where his heart resides.
They say home is where the heart is, and his heart is always with Eddie.

Buck meets a new friend, who he sometimes has sex with. Eddie hates the guy but can't figure out why - until he does.
OR
5 times Eddie was jealous and 1 time he didn't have to be
OR
"Eddie couldn’t manage to ignore Tyler’s existence after that. Not because Buck was spending any more time with the man - best Eddie could tell, they saw each other maybe 6 times per month. But now he knew what kind of sex they were having. Well, not really what kind, but he knew that it was good. Good enough to give Buck three orgasms in one night. And it must be frequent, for Tyler to feel comfortable calling Buck on a weekday morning demanding to get dicked down.
Not that Eddie thought that much about Buck and Tyler having sex. Just, sometimes his mind conjured imagines. And once or twice he saw a faint bruise on Buck’s throat that he was pretty sure was a hickey. And another time he saw what look like a rash, a small patch of red, irritated skin, on the back of Buck’s neck. Eddie tried for five seconds to tell himself it must be carpet burn, somehow, but he couldn’t get Chim’s description of Tyler and his five-o’clock shadow out of his head, so instead he just resolved not to think of it at all."

Summary
Maddie asks him, like she’s been waiting to ask him, “Does Christopher call you ‘Uncle Buck’?”
It’s… it sounds so casual. Nonchalant. Maybe even reasonable? And like there’s something she’s trying to figure out, but why would Chris ever call Buck his uncle? He’s Jee-Yun’s uncle. “No,” Buck answers. “Why?”
“He called me Aunt Maddie.” She tips her head curiously, brows knit together. “You’re far closer to him than I am. I thought if I’m his aunt, you’d have to be his uncle. Why wouldn’t you be Uncle Buck?”
There are pieces of chicken mushed into Jee’s fingers and carrots sticking to the bib draped over her front and what might be peas caught in her hair.
And Buck doesn’t really have an answer.
It’s just. It’s wrong. He’s not Chris’ Uncle Buck. Maybe he should be? Maybe he’s supposed to be? Or maybe Chris doesn’t call him that directly because he’s always been BFF Buck or His Buck. He shrugs and uneasiness settles in his stomach.
What more could he ever be to Chris but an uncle?
~~~
In which Buck processes his breakup, learns his place in his family, has a huge crisis of sexuality, and finds the truth about love beating in his own heart.
Summary
What he ever did to deserve this life, to deserve this love, Buck will never know.
The oven is still warm, filling the entire apartment with the smell of home and peace. The night is quiet, refreshing after the day that had passed. Three pairs of shoes sit by the front door. The moon is not quite full, but bright enough to send light passing through the blinds, passing between threads of the curtains in the living room.
Chris is glued to Buck’s side, the three crammed together on the left side of Eddie’s couch. There’s no need to sit in the way they do, the couch spans across the room, soft and inviting. Buck is sandwiched between his two favorite people, both of which are dangerously close to falling asleep. Buck thinks that if he could take all the clocks in the world, if he could pause them for a single moment and live in it forever, it would be this moment. This place.
“I think,” he says, watching Karen pull Hen out onto the dance floor, their eyes never leaving each other’s, “I think I’m just—sad.”
Maybe. That feels like a close enough word to describe this gaping maw right in the center of his chest. It’s only really there sometimes, taking little bites out of him, easy enough to ignore, but today is worse.
“About being single at a wedding,” Eddie says, not a question.
Buck shrugs. “Sounds stupid when you put it that way.”
