Summary
“My client hired me to find you because she needs your help. Or more specifically, her daughter needs your help. The girl has leukemia and my client isn’t a match to donate bone marrow,” the private investigator explained and Buck paled at the words.
Because there was really only one reason for all of this; the girl was his. And Buck didn’t know how to feel about any of it but he did know that he would do anything he could to help so he said, “I’ll do it,” before Mr McIntyre even got a chance to continue.
OR Buck learns that he has a daughter and tries to deal with his past while trying to help his kid with his found family by his side.

Summary
“Buck. Where the hell have you been? I was ready to send Athena out looking for you.”
He continues to stand outside Eddie’s door, still wearing the same clothes as earlier and doesn’t seem hurt. Not physically anyway. Eddie will take that win for now. Otherwise, Buck looks wrecked, like someone ran over his dog.
“Earlier, when you said you thought I deserved better. Someone who could give me something like this… Like what, Eddie? What did you mean?” His voice is trembling and tentative. Eddie wants to scoop him up and hold him until Buck feels safe.
“Listen. I’m- please come in so I can explain.”
Buck stays where he is, rooted to the porch. “What did you mean? I have to know. Please.”
After all this time, the conversation Eddie’s been putting off is literally at his doorstep. “What I meant was… fuck, there’s no easy way to say this."
OR Buck and Eddie have loved each other for years, even if they don't always know how to say it. So they hide it in the everyday, like a parent hides veggies in food for their kid. This is 5 times they say I Love You without saying I Love You + 1 time they use their words and actually say I Love You.

Summary
It takes Maddie until bedtime and putting him into her own bed for Buck to finally ask why Maisy’s dad grabbed his arm like that and stared at the mark on his wrist. Because that’s what he was doing the entire time. Maddie sighs that one sigh she always has when she has to explain something difficult to him. Sometimes Evan thinks that it’s things his parents should have told him but never did. They don’t talk much to him anyway.

Of course, Buck just had to end up with a very special kind of soulmark. And of course it makes his life more complicated. So this is his journey towards the happy ending he's always dreamed of but never dared to hope for.

Buck’s back on the dating scene but he can’t seem to get a second date. Eddie comes up with a foolproof plan to find out what’s going wrong for him.
Eddie’s mouth twists as he ponders the problem “Have you asked them for any feedback?”
“Feedback?” He gets a bark of laughter from Eddie for his incredulous tone.
“I’m not asking for a Yelp review on my dating skills Eds.”
Eddie laughs again, which gives him a small surge of satisfaction, see Eddie thinks he's funny.
He’s definitely funnier than Eddie because his next comment does not amuse.
“Maybe it’s the goodnight kiss that puts them off.”

Summary
Buck knows what he’s doing might be constituted as ‘a bit creepy,’ but he can’t really help it. He has a book in his lap, so it’s not like he’s just staring at Eddie, but—ok, so he hasn’t actually read a page in over twenty minutes, and in the meantime he has watched his best friend chop like six different kinds of vegetables to go in Bobby’s ragu.
“How’s it going, Buck?” Hen asks, flinging herself into the adjacent arm chair.
“Fine,” Buck says, barely looking at her. “But something’s up with Eddie.”

Summary
“So, Frank thinks we should do couples therapy.”
Eddie’s words sink in and Buck fumbles the plate in his hand, watching open-mouthed as it falls to the floor and smashes into a million pieces, scattering across the linoleum.
“Shit!” Buck yelps, shoving an arm out instinctively to keep Eddie in place, lest he starts to move and step on a shard with his bare feet. Eddie looks up at him, bemused and impossibly fond, a small smile playing on his lips even though the crease in his brow he’s had since he returned from his therapy session is still etched in place.
“Swear jar!” shouts Chris gleefully.

Summary
Maddie asks him, like she’s been waiting to ask him, “Does Christopher call you ‘Uncle Buck’?”
It’s… it sounds so casual. Nonchalant. Maybe even reasonable? And like there’s something she’s trying to figure out, but why would Chris ever call Buck his uncle? He’s Jee-Yun’s uncle. “No,” Buck answers. “Why?”
“He called me Aunt Maddie.” She tips her head curiously, brows knit together. “You’re far closer to him than I am. I thought if I’m his aunt, you’d have to be his uncle. Why wouldn’t you be Uncle Buck?”
There are pieces of chicken mushed into Jee’s fingers and carrots sticking to the bib draped over her front and what might be peas caught in her hair.
And Buck doesn’t really have an answer.
It’s just. It’s wrong. He’s not Chris’ Uncle Buck. Maybe he should be? Maybe he’s supposed to be? Or maybe Chris doesn’t call him that directly because he’s always been BFF Buck or His Buck. He shrugs and uneasiness settles in his stomach.
What more could he ever be to Chris but an uncle?
~~~
In which Buck processes his breakup, learns his place in his family, has a huge crisis of sexuality, and finds the truth about love beating in his own heart.
