It is the year 100 AG, and the Fire Nation is on the verge of absolute global conquest.
Princess Azula believes that she was born to rule, and she rules through fear alone. The world fears her. Her people fear her. Even her closest friends fear her. She has never truly experienced a bond that was not founded in fear. That is until, one day a young peasant girl enters her life by giving her a fire lily.
Through this flower, Azula brings Elle back to the palace to serve as her handmaid. From there, an unlikely bond blossoms between two girls from separate worlds.
Azula soon finds herself undertaking a life-changing journey with her new companion to ascend the throne, while she faces enemies old and new along the way, and maybe even save the world from an otherworldly threat while she is at it.
Over the course of her odyssey, she begins to discover her humanity, and she comes to experience what it feels like to be loved by another. And in turn Elle learns the meaning of happiness, and most importantly she has finally found a home.
Neither of their lives will ever be the same again. Canon divergent.

Summary
The year was 100AG, the world believed the return of Sozin's Comet would mark an end to the Hundred year war, it did, just not as Azula had expected. Suffering from defeat at the hands of her enemies, her world now shattered at her feet, she would go on to rise again to forge her true destiny, changing the world forever.
This story will be told mostly from Azula's POV, filling the blanks between what happened during the last episodes of the show, the comics and beyond. I plan to write this in accordance with the values ATLA upholds, I'll address important world issues, as well as philosophical themes, but above all, I'll give you proper development of these characters we've grown to know and love. I only hope I can fulfill your standards and be able to tell an amazing story that will give some characters closure.
You can also be a part of this story by submitting your suggestions and reviewing! I promise to answer your questions. Please, keep in mind this is a work in progress, I'll try my best to update it weekly during Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays mostly, whilst also fixing any mistakes along the way.

He stood like he used to when they were children, his stance relaxed and just confident enough to make people hesitate. Despite Azula’s prodigal skills, Zuko had always been better.
Easier, as well, to mold. Azula remembered now, as she saw the scar, why she had left that night. The night Father held down her brother and taught him resilience, and Zuko had sat there and taken it. He hadn’t even screamed.
Azula used to think she was a monster, until she saw Zuko that night.
“Azula?” Katara asked, “What now?”
She glanced at the other girl and then suddenly remembered the firmness of her friends' voices reminding her you’re not a monster.
She wouldn’t kill Zuko today.

Azula knelt before her broken mirror, staring tear-stricken at her shattered image. She shuddered. Despite having no glass shards in her skin, pain rattled her very core. Moments before, she saw her mother standing behind her, saying sweet nothings, things that she always wanted her to say instead of those distorted glares and scowls reserved for her and never Zuko. Her body was solid, sweet voice so clear. Azula swore she even smelt her mother's lotus perfume. But that was impossible.

Zuko and Azula have always been more than content in the palace. They have two loving parents, a younger sister, a doting uncle. They could never see a reason why they would want to leave.
But there must have been a reason Ty Lee and Mai spent so much time at the palace, rather than with their own families. And eventually, all problems will rear their ugly heads.
