One of the earliest stories of the Darren, "the Darren + the Crows" is part of the Otherfaith's mythology. It explores the god's nature and temperament, and features one of his most common associations -- corvids -- when they become caught up in the Darren's magic.
In this brief story, the Darren is harassed by a mob of crows while slowly walking across the earth, and decides upon an unusual solution to the situation. It could also be understood as depicting the “adoption” of crows and ravens as a symbol of the Darren.

[Please note: The first chapter was written well before I understood much about the various Laethic shards. As a result, there are references that actually describe multiple Laethas, but the chapter is meant to describe only one of the Laethas. To answer who they are intended to be, the best I can say is that it is supposed to be Asier, but they were also overlaid with many traits of the (non-collective) Firebird as well. Oh, and also in the first chapter, the Dierne is referenced solely as “he”, despite the god’s ability to shapeshift and their connection to many genders. In future chapters, there will be a lot more nuance specific to the Laetha and the Dierne and their complexity.]
