After helping to rescue Booker from Noriko’s hands, Joe and Nicky go in search of food to feed their recently-reunited family. As they wait for the pizzas, they take some time for themselves.“Twenty minutes, she said?” Nicky asks once they are outside.
Joe nods absentmindedly as he scans the street for any potential risks. Andy doesn’t think Noriko would follow them here, but Joe won’t be taking any chances. He still remembers watching Nicky slowly coming back to him on the dirty floor of an unmarked van, and he isn’t keen on repeating the experience anytime soon.
The memory alone jostles Joe’s composure and his hands tingle at the absence of Nicky’s skin under his fingertips. Joe blinks as he notices Nicky has stopped in a nook between a street lamp and a wall covered in posters and graffiti. The yellowish light casts warm tones all over his sharp face, and Joe is walking towards him as if pulled by an invisible string.

“You be my blanket.” Joe says, eyes still closed, arranging Nicky so that he’s got his legs on either side of Joe’s hips, chests pressed together. This way, Joe will be completely warm, and he can still bury his face in that same spot in Nicky’s neck.
Nicky pinches his earlobe lightly, “I love you, my sun. I really do. But you’re being entirely too dramatic, it is not that cold.”
“Nicky,” Joe whines, digging his fingers into the bare skin of Nicky’s waist. “Don’t be mean. It’s fucking freezing.”
“Mm,” Nicky’s hand slides between them to pinch Joe’s nipple instead, “you like it when I’m mean.”
