    Summary

His eyes landed on her braid, and he was seized with an irrational, immature, completely idiotic inspiration. He knew what would get her attention. He knew what she couldn't possibly ignore.

Gilbert Blythe had read poetry, newspapers, and literature. His vocabulary was extensive and admirable. As such, he had a huge inventory of synonyms for the word “orange.” Yet, somehow, when faced with the beauty of Anne’s vibrant red hair, only one word came to his mind.

He grabbed her braid and jerked it sharply, pulling her head along with it. “Carrots!”

A canon-compliant rewrite of Gilbert and Anne's first interactions, in which I try to figure out exactly what makes this boy tick.

    Summary

Elizabeth Bennet finds herself required to marry Mr. Collins, or else her family faces ruin. Upon receiving the onus to marry by Lady Catherine, Mr. Collins was reminded of a contract that his grandfather had given him before he passed. It promises the hand of one of Mr. Bennet’s granddaughters (should they be born) to one of Mr. Collins grandsons (should he be born), signed by our Mr. Bennet’s father. Mr. Collins has chosen our Lizzy as his bride. After being informed of the contract’s existence, Lizzy goes for a walk to Oakham Mount, and on her way, she runs into Mr. Darcy. Darcy, having successfully prevented Wickham from getting near Georgiana after being refused the living, is not so severe and unhappy. Georgiana, having been spared needing rescue, has not retreated into a shell, and as a result is more lively and communicative with her brother, especially about his happiness. We meet after the Netherfield debacle where Jane was abed, sick. Readers will remember Mr. Darcy penning a letter to his sister, but for the purposes of this story, he receives a letter back that helps him to consider the way he appears to others, and causes him to think of his own happiness, which brings him back to a pair of fine eyes.
