It was meant to be a simple job. Kill the kid, probably anger a powerfully rich organisation, hand the corpse over to Mori, and never think of it again. But things can't always be that simple, can they?
He stared down at the boy in shock, his pupils shivering, "H-How are you still alive?"
The boy, Nico -no, he couldn't be, he just couldn't!- looked at him, "Oh, it's you. This is kinda awkward."
Dazai reached for his gun, eyeing the kid who's bleeding corpse he's stuffed into a trunk just weeks ago, "Answers. Now."
He doesn't know what he's expecting, but a whole new world is definitely not on that list.Or: If he was asked to pinpoint the exact moment his life really went off the rails, Dazai Osamu would probably decide that that would be the day he first caught sight of the mysterious person that he would come to know as the Ambassador of the Underworld.

Ranpo would call Dazai Osamu a peculiar man. There were no records of him ever existing, however at any mention of his past the man would sway the conversation with his own makeshift lies and false smiles. He was coated in bandages which he never offered an explanation for, and never explained why he knows the people he does.

"S-Sure..." Chuuya isn't sure why his heart is suddenly racing. Maybe it's because he's having a conversation with one of the most powerful figures in Yokohama, someone who makes even the elite bow at his feet. Maybe it's because staring into Osamu Dazai's piercing eyes is like staring into a void of whiskey. Chuuya has never seen eyes so blank, so emotionless, so empty. He's head stories from lawyers who have gone up against Dazai. They describe him as completely unreadable.
"You'll never know what his true intention is until he's made his move."
He always thought these were exaggerations, but standing in front of the man at this moment, staring into his eyes, Chuuya has no idea what he's going to say next. -
