Summary
In two separate universes Harry Potter sits on a wooden stool with a talking hat on his head.
In one universe Harry closes his eyes and begs the hat for any house but one, as he recalls its reputation. The hat on his head obliges and gracefully calls out his potential for bravery. However, in the other universe Harry keeps his eyes open. He looks out over the hall and sees four families that were found, made, and kept in this school. In this universe, Harry decides that he doesn't care which house he ends up in, just that he’s lucky enough to find a family in whichever one he’s given. The hat takes this as answer enough and echoes his ambitious spirit over the crowd.
The story of Harry Potter, the courageous Gryffindor, is for someone else to tell, on some later day. For now allow me to grace you with the tale of Harry Potter, the cunning Slytherin.

Many thought Harry Potter was the first boy to see James Fleamont Potter in the Mirror of Erised. Curled in his cloak, on the outside the same colour as the darkness pressing in on him. On the inside layer though was a bright red. Deep as the blood in their veins. It was a colour that was wrapped around him as though he was being protected by his father. A father he didn’t know with the same round glasses and dark skin.
Harry, though, was not the first boy to see him in the mirror… Regulus Black was.
