“This machine sounds very powerful,” Kratos said. He was looking her right in the eyes; he had to see her tears, but he did not respond to them. “If it can exist, why cannot gods exist?”
Aloy felt her face fold into a grimace. “This again?” she hissed hotly.
“I am trying to understand,” Kratos said. His voice sounded subtly kinder, and his face had softened more than she’d ever seen it. It, too, caught her off guard.
“That machine is very powerful,” she said, though she couldn’t keep the frustration out of her voice. “The Nora think it is so powerful they worship it as a goddess. They call it All-Mother.” She practically spat the last words. “But it’s not a goddess. It was made by humans; it just does what it was told to do. The Nora just don’t understand it, so they call it a goddess.” She shut her eyes tight, the tears no longer flowing, the lump that had grown in her throat having melted into something angrier, less vulnerable. “Gods exist when humans turn something inexplicable into something magical, just to make the world simpler.”
SPOILERS possible for both games; the story takes place after the events of both of them

Summary
After three failures of Holy Grail Wars, a certain magician steps in to put things on the right course. The idea was there, but the execution was lacking. Fortunately, he had no shortage of options. If the mages and heroes of this world wouldn't suffice, then he'd turn to worlds that weren't his own.
A recreation of the circumstances of the 4th Grail War, but with characters from other works who slot right into place. What will change, and what will stay the same? Constance and variables. A war so alike, and yet so different, from the one we know.
Expect some level of spoilers for any series that gets plugged into this thing. More tags will be added as more characters are introduced (by name) into the story.

“Higher,” he says, his tone softer than usual. The low basso of his voice makes your heart double-beat, and you let him gently guide your elbow up until it’s level with your shoulder. Then you hear yourself gasp softly as he moves in even closer.
His arms encircle yours. One hand comes to grip yours over the bow, and the other encircles your wrist where you’re holding the arrow. His head is over your right shoulder, so close you can feel the fringe of his beard against your neck. You breathe deeply, suddenly feeling lightheaded.
“If you are strong enough to wield that axe, you are strong enough to draw this bow,” he says, his hot breath fanning over your neck. Then you gasp as he pulls your hand and the bowstring back. His grip is hard, unflinching, as he draws the arrow back nearly to your cheek.
“Go ahead,” he says in a low voice.

A slow burn romance about Kratos and Faye (reader insert) as they brave the hardships of Midgard. Eventual smut (Ch. 20+), but a very slow burn first. Impatient readers may want to skip to the next work in the series ^_~

“Holy Hel, you’re wearing a shirt.”
Kratos, son of Zeus, the Ghost of Sparta, and God of War, arched a brow at the woman. “Why is that surprising?”
Faye scoffed, “You practically run around half naked all of the time, and in the frost of all things. It’s a wonder how you haven’t frozen your nipples off.”
It was obvious the deity was doing his best not to be gob smacked, but was failing terribly. “It’s not that cold.”
“Kratos, you literally came home with icicles coating you,” she grumbled, wringing out the laundry. Damn, blood stains were tricky....
Sighing, she examined the cloth in her hand. He leaned over, “How do you know how to remove the stains?” He thought for a moment, “I never really learned.”
What? Did blood magically dissipate along with his wounds? Wait, nevermind. Best not to dwell on that too much.
“I’m a woman, if you haven’t noticed,” she said flatly. “It’d be extremely inconvenient if women didn’t know how to clean blood.”
There was a pause, and she felt his breath on her ear, on her neck. It was warm and tickled a little. “I’ve noticed.”

It was wondrous when one considered they were friends long before any prophecy that practically declared she would be a brooding mare, die, and…Leave her family to face everything, alone. Yes, she placed markings everywhere, including in the deepest, most barren parts of the realms. It took her years, but she wanted to at least give them something. She commissioned Sindri and Brok for an axe, not only for her own use, but for theirs.
She didn’t even know their faces yet, and Jotenheim’s art left much to be desired at times. She knew the man would be pale as a ghost and her son would be an archer. She told the others not to tell her any more of their appearances. She wanted to know them as her own. She wanted to know them.
…What a horrible wife and mother she was going to be.
