Summary
Keyleth has always struggled with intimacy.
On one hand, she knows that’s kind of a hallmark of being on the ace spectrum — something she’s known since she found the terms gray-ace and demisexual on a colorful queer website as a teen — and then on the other it’s kind of a hallmark of the trans experience.
Ever since she started transitioning, the hormone replacement, the electrolysis, the laser, everything she’s done to make her body a place she can love to live it’s gotten easier, but at that point she’d still never been with anyone. She’d hardly kissed anyone, and certainly hadn’t gotten close enough with someone to bare herself and all of her insecurities, both physically and emotionally. Her dysphoria is even on the milder side, but it still sends a shock of anxiety through her sometimes to think about someone slipping a hand up her skirt or through the open zipper of her jeans and recoiling at something… unexpected.
With Vex, though… with Vex it’s different.

“You’re never intruding, Keyleth, but if it alleviates your nerves, it’ll just be you and I,” she informs. “And I hope you’ll be okay with the attention I plan on paying you,” she continues, voice lowering as they sidestep a cart coming toward them, bodies pressed together for a short moment, but long enough for Vex to murmur that. “Because while I have a gift for you, it isn’t entirely altruistic, and I hope you’ll return the favor by being a good, obedient girl for me tonight.”
She steps away once the cart passes, smiling slyly at the flush rising in Keyleth’s cheeks, eyes a fraction wider than before.
“Can you do that for me, darling?”

They’re taking it slow, and they’re committed to taking it slow.
The last thing either of them wants is to rush into anything and ruin the tenuous relationship they’ve been building to the point that it’s truly beyond salvage. In all honesty, Keyleth’s shocked she didn’t already do that the first time around when she said her goodbyes, even if, now, Vex reassures her that she knows it was an impossible choice. Her lingering bitterness about the entire situation is her own demon to trifle with, and with this newness, they’ve begun to breathe easier.
Neither of them wants to say they’re grateful to have broken up — grateful for the five years of anguish and fury and tears — but perhaps time apart was good for them, giving them the space to grow and mature into adults, into their own people.
Appreciative, maybe, is the word, for the time to be apart.

“I have a very bad feeling about the direction of this conversation,” Percy grumbles into his drink before taking a sip.
“Does Vex wanting to have sex with Keyleth make her a furry?”
Percy’s eyes widen as he inhales his scotch before it sprays from his mouth and nose in a wheezing fit of coughs.

Keyleth almost can’t believe she’s back.
During her years as the Tempest she visited Emon only a few times, and only when absolutely necessary. If it could be handled through a messenger, it was, and if not, she would never leave the confines of the Cloudtop District. Things beyond those hundred foot walls were in constant flux, changing from the city she knew into something almost entirely new right under her nose. Of course, Percy kept her updated on things he noticed from his residence, but he didn’t venture much further than the inner city unless he was traveling back to Whitestone.
So, when she finally returns to the city five years later, Keyleth can’t help but marvel at the change as the car drives her through what she remembers being called the Lower Slums, noting the scenery and a sign proclaiming it as the Southgate Farms. Their route won’t take them through the area she used to live during part of her college years, but her heart still pangs at the thought of that little apartment, how her father said she could afford a nicer place in the Erudite Quarter, closer to the university, but that he respected her wishes to live with—
The car hits a pothole, and she’s jolted out of her thoughts.

Modern AU where Vex and Vax stuck with their dad and are both successful young equestrians on the pre-professional junior hunter-jumper track. Their dad still sucks but bankrolls their horses and they make him look good so their pretty chill with each other. Keyleth is a country kid who can ride crazy well so gets invited to work for the barn the twins (and the rest of the gang) ride at. Vex is a massive lesbian and falls for her because of course she does.
It's my first fic on ao3 so whatever your expectations are just take them and lower them a bit.

Her voice is low and sultry, and Keyleth blushes under her attention.
“I think you’re trying to kill me,” she says, and when Vex quirks an eyebrow, continues, “because I won’t be able to think of anything else tonight other than how much I want my hands on you.”
Vex, still smirking, gently strokes her thumb along Keyleth’s jaw as she hums thoughtfully – and this probably shouldn’t be turning Keyleth on as much as it is, but – “So I’m guessing I made the right choice in dress for tonight, since it’s made you so desperate for me.”
Keyleth nods her assent, absentmindedly moving her hands from her lap to the back of Vex’s thighs, toying with the netted material under her fingers. Vex shivers lightly at the touch, before seemingly remembering what they were all dressed up to do.

Summary
Vex wasn’t jealous of Keyleth. She knew that’s what the others thought, and she wasn’t going to do anything to convince them otherwise. Let them think her childish and petulant behavior was because she didn’t want her spot in her twin’s life to be replaced. That was far less embarrassing than the truth. The mortifying reality that she had let herself develop feelings for someone who wasn’t her brother or her bear.
No, Vex was not jealous of Keyleth. She was jealous of Vax.
