Yuuri is the God of Death and Lord of the Underworld, and has established and maintained a tentative peace after a long war with the gods of the Overworld. He thought he’d been doing an okay job, but apparently it wasn’t enough, just like everything he tries to do. Now the Lord of the Overworld demands Yuuri marry one of their gods as proof of each side’s commitment. All in all it might not be such a bad situation—Yuuri’s always admired Victor, the God of Spring, from a distance.
Problem is, Victor would rather have Yuuri dead than stay his husband. In fact, Victor would just like Yuuri dead in general.
AKA the weird Hades and Persephone retelling (not Greek world building tho) that I couldn’t help but writing.

Yuuri carried the box to Viktor’s room and placed it along the wall next to the others. As he turned to leave, there was something about the quality of the light and the way it spilled across the bed and the pillow Viktor had used. The rest of the room was dark, except for that one sunbeam, highlighting where Viktor had slept when he was there.
Sighing, Yuuri sat down on the bed and looked down at Viktor’s pillow, remembering a time when the light had been just like this and how it had cast a golden glow on Viktor’s skin and lit up his hair… Yuuri reached out and let his fingertips caress the pillow case, wishing again that Viktor was there with him.
He pulled out his phone and snapped a picture of the light on Viktor’s pillow. He sent the image in a text to Viktor with a simple message: I miss you.
The reply was almost immediate: a wide angle selfie of Viktor lying on his bed in Saint Petersburg, his hair tousled and a faint smile on his lips. His free hand pointed at the pillow to his right.
I miss you, too. This one is for you when you get here.
Yuuri wiped away sudden tears. Two weeks? The waiting was killing him.

Years after equality is achieved and traditional marriages are thrown out the window, society starts to realize that such equality has its cost. With the heavy decline in Alpha-Omega matings and a shift from family to career lifestyles, the world finds itself facing a population crisis. Betas heavily outnumber Alphas and Omegas to the point of almost extinction, and in a state of emergency the UN establishes the World Alpha and Omega Registrar.
Laws are put in place that turn average Alpha and Omegas into royalty with government subsidization. They are modern day Kings and Queens that want for nothing in their lifetime - for a price. Alphas and Omegas are given until a certain age to find a mate of their own, at which time a mate is selected for them by the WAOR. After marriage, mates are given two years to conceive or pay the consequences.
After Viktor’s greatest achievement and Yuuri’s biggest failure on the ice, they find their time running out.
