Kaeya Alberich never existed in Mondstadt. He had manipulated the strings of fate so Ursa did not attack, Crepus Ragnvindr was not struck down, and Diluc Ragnvindr didn't have a best friend who could break his heart. It was better that way. Even so...that meant a lonely, lonely life for him. Wandering, on his own, unable to resist going back to the city he called home once...but he had fixed everything.
So why was the Favonius Cavalry Captain looking at him with a flirtatious smile and offering to pay for his drink?

“I was back at Dawn Winery.” Luc answered simply. “Then suddenly I was in front of two Abyss Mages and I fought them until I was captured and tied up.”
“I was about to head into patrol around Mondstadt.” Kae answered easily. “The same thing happened to me and I was about to destroy the Abyss Mage’s shield before I was captured as well.”
Diluc nodded and met Kaeya’s eyes, “Right. We were investigating Abyss Order activity around leylines and that was when we found you two. Their only answer when asked about their activity was to solidify memories.”
“If you haven’t realized yet then it should be clear by now.” Kaeya leaned against the table and looked between Luc and Kae. “Seems like you’re around… hm, let’s say five years into the future?”
“Give or take.” Diluc nodded.

When Crepus Ragnvindr opened his eyes after he could have sworn he died, of course it came as a shock. And then he found out he had been reincarnated four years later, and was quick to try and make things right, fix the mess he had left behind. For example, the fact that the winery was hardly able to hold itself together without anyone officially in charge, and most importantly, the emotional state those he cared about, especially his sons.
But Diluc isn't home. And Kaeya has held onto that pyro vision for four years now, the only thing letting them know that Diluc was alive.
Diluc on the other hand is dealing with one of the possible consequences of discarding his Vision: memory loss. More specifically, forgetting his father and many of the things he did in life that he could connect to his father.
