Summary

Summary
As Wei Wuxian walks a lonely road, he writes frequently to Lan Wangji in Cloud Recesses, unable to receive a reply as he moves from place to place. When fate forces him to remain in place for longer than anticipated, his friend is finally able to reply. With a page and distance between them, words come easier and slowly they come to an understanding of their feelings for each other. When Lan Wangji receives an unexpected letter from Wei Wuxian's hosts though, his hopes of a future for the pair of them is shattered. Refusing to give up, Lan Wangji makes a journey and learns to read between the lines of the story he has been told.

The suggestion knocked Huaisang onto his metaphorical ass.
He stared at his phone for a while, then set it down and stared into space instead. Wuxian was still texting him, he could hear the messages popping up one after another, but how could he focus on that when such an amazing idea was filling his thoughts?
It was so easy to imagine it - what an arm to be the candy on. He pictured them together, Wanyin tall and handsome and stoic except for the occasional fond smile at his very beautiful companion, him an absolute snack basking in everyone's envy. People would look so jealously at them. Perhaps there would be PDAs.

In a moment of true genius, Wei Wuxian hires acquaintance Nie Huaisang to come to family dinners as Jiang Wanyin's pretend boyfriend - THAT should get their parents off his brother's back about marrying and having kids, right? (Not that he actually runs the plan past his brother ahead of time, because consequences are for other people to think about.)
Now Jiang Wanyin and Nie Huaisang are on Team Convince Everyone We're Dating, which would honestly be quite easy (turns out they make a great team!) if things like actual developing feelings didn't start to get in the way.

It happened like this: Jin Ling was a sect leader now, which was, and Jingyi really meant this, fucking hilarious. There were few things funnier, in his honest opinion.
Because he was young, and inexperienced, and also — it had to be said — a real shithead, there was apparently some belief amongst his advisors that the best way forward, to promote the picture of a stable, mature sect leader who absolutely did not cry at the drop of a hat, was for Jin Ling to get married.

Summary

Jingyi leaves Gusu Lan for good, but Sizhui's punishment with the discipline whip leaves him bed-bound and stuck in the Cloud Recesses. Jingyi is willing to bear the solitude to do what he thinks is best for his friend, but Sizhui has other ideas.
