Summary
The longer the silence stretches, the more Eddie misses Richie. It starts to become a physical ache, deep in his chest, that Richie’s not on the sofa with him. It feels wrong, that Richie’s not talking about everything and absolutely nothing simultaneously into the quiet, probing Eddie to make him laugh. There’s a preview on the TV for Richie’s live show, and his voice piercing the room makes Eddie’s heart pound with love and fucking loneliness.

“What if we don’t have enough drinks?” Eddie asks, digging through their fridge while Richie spoons yogurt into Riley’s mouth. She frowns at him, but swallows it anyways.
“Then I’ll go out in the morning and get some,” Richie tells him. “Babe, I’m telling you, we’ve done everything we can. It’s not until tomorrow anyways, we have time if we forgot anything.”
Eddie closes the fridge door and sighs. After a moment, he comes over to lean against their kitchen table, tapping his fingers against his arm a little too aggressively. After a long moment, he starts to say, “What if—”
“There’s no what if,” Richie cuts him off. “I promise you, it’ll be okay.”

Sometimes, Eddie caught Richie staring. More often than not, he would make a face or stick out his tongue, and Richie would return it, exaggerated and playful. But other times, Eddie stared back. Richie could feel a blush rising in his face as Eddie held his gaze, level and calm, not curious or judgmental, simply looking. When that happened, Richie would always be the one to look away. He’d quickly turn to another one of their friends and crack a joke, which would make everyone groan or laugh or tell him to shut up, and it would take his mind off Eddie and the way his face got pink when he was outside for too long.

The moments stretch on like hours, and Richie thinks. He’s okay if this is it, if this maybe is Richie Tozier’s last hurrah. Or only hurrah. And maybe he’s afraid of dying without ever having told Eddie certain...things…but it doesn’t matter.
Nothing matters but Eddie, Eddie’s hand on him, Eddie beaming triumphantly. He looks so much like his 13 year old self that Richie vows to savor the moment forever. He missed that dastardly youthful face, even when he didn’t remember what it was he was missing. Those big eyes, so innocent, even in the face of overwhelming danger and abuse and the deep loneliness of an unfulfilling life. And he is so brave.

Before he knows it, it's been a month since Riley and Audrey came home, and Eddie realizes this means it's been a month since he's gotten Richie's dick inside of him, which is a tragedy. He'd never tell Richie something like that, because, God, it would go right to his fucking head, but he misses Richie fiercely. It's nice, that they sleep curled up together, and they lounge together on the sofa, and they try to keep their ankles connected when they eat dinner.
It's nice, but Eddie's starting to get itchy whenever they touch each other, starts to burn at the back of his chest when Richie's skin brushes his.
