Crumpled at the base of Koi Tower’s long stairs for the second time, Jin Guangyao presses his face into the stone, takes a deep breath despite re-broken ribs, and arranges his features as carefully as he knows how. Then he stands, moving carefully around the pain, and bows deep, arms held straight and true. The walk back up the steps to his father's side is painful enough to wipe the smile from his face; it is not painful enough to prevent him re-taking his place as seneschal, bowing again at the top of the steps. As he straightens, he prioritizes his plans for his father’s demise over all else.

Saving the Dafan Mountain Wen wasn't the best idea Meng Yao had ever had, but it wasn't the worst either. It wouldn't help him with his father either, but Wen Ning was kind and gentle and had a soul that purer than even Zewu-Jun's. He knew he was going to get in trouble but figured he could handle it as long as both Wen Ning and A'Song were safe, Meng Yao would handle everything.
He was wrong. So wrong. So horribly, terribly, wrong. He couldn't handle it. He didn't want to be a Jin anymore. He didn't want anything but his son and his mother, and he couldn't go to them without getting them and the Wen Remnants caught. He didn't know what to do.
